Summary

Your new school Hays are recruiting for a job as a Full-Time SEN Teaching Assistant in Blaenau Gwent for a Special Educational Needs School which caters for pupils aged 3-16 with a variety of additional learning, emotional, and social needs as well as aspects of challenging behaviour. Many of the children have severe learning difficulties or complex additional needs and therefore require additional care, patience, and support. Patience is a key aspect of the role when dealing with challenging behaviour. Responsibilities relating to this role include working with groups of 2-3 children in small classes aged 8-10 with a variety of additional learning needs. You shall be working in a team of four, alongside two other Learning Support Assistants and a Teacher. The school are keen to recruit from within through their agency staff. Therefore, this is an excellent way to put your name forward for a potential permanent post.
Your new roleThe role is confirmed long-term for an immediate start, working 5 days a week. However, the school is also looking for part-time staff as well as those who are looking to start before the end of this academic year. Duties relating to this role include but are not limited to:

  • Working with a small group of students aged 8-10 with sometimes complex additional needs.
  • Offering support to students with a wide range of sometimes severe learning difficulties.
  • Demonstrating high levels of patience and empathy when dealing with challenging behaviour.
  • Creating and maintaining a safe, positive, and enjoyable learning environment even when placed under pressure.
  • Working closely as part of a team with two fellow Teaching Assistants and a Teacher.


What you'll need to succeedTo be considered for this role, it is required that you possess at least 40 days of relevant experience working or volunteering within a school or with children over the course of the last 2 - 3 years. Some of the key attributes and skills needed for this role include empathy, patience, and calmness. Further desired traits include responsiveness, problem-solving skills, commitment, and a high degree of motivation.
A desired qualification is to be Team Teach trained.
