ISCAN Speech Therapy Team Assistant - Band 3 - 25 hours, Permanent
There has never been a more exciting time to join the ISCAN (Integrated Service for Children with Additional Needs) team. We are moving forward in growing our service following some recent investment for our workforce and also to enhance our Local Offer. As a member of our team you will have the opportunity to be involved in the development of our new ISCAN website. In addition, the Trust are working with the team to develop some innovative approaches to redesign pathways with the goal of delivering improved care for our children and families across Tameside and Glossop.

We are a multi-agency team, consisting of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and nurses. You will have the opportunity to support all teams within ISCAN. Our service delivers specialist care to children and young people 0-19 years with additional and complex needs.
A dynamic and enthusiastic Speech Therapy Team Assistant, with good communication skills is required to join our friendly, supportive and specialist team. The post involves providing clinical support to the SALT Team within ISCAN, working closely with clinicians to carry out programmes of advice for the children. This will involve handling children and equipment and working closely with parents, carers and other professionals involved in the child’s care.
We are an extremely proactive and supportive team and you will be provided with guidance from experienced colleagues. We have a team of 9 therapy assistants in the service. You will have regular supervision from your line manager and appropriate training will be provided.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
To carry out therapy programmes/intervention as assessed for and planned by a therapist. Be able to work independently under the supervision of responsible practitioner and be responsible for
reporting the child’s progress back to the therapist/nurse as appropriate. This will be in the child's home, school, playgroup/nursery or similar environment in Tameside and Glossop.
Minimal adjustment of equipment and programmes of therapy as advised by the therapist
To prepare therapy materials/equipment as required ensuring treatment sessions are age and developmentally appropriate, child centered and fun.
To work alongside practitioners, parents/carers, playgroup/nursery or school staff to ensure therapy programmes are delivered in a timely fashion, are reinforced outside of therapy sessions and enable pupils to access the school curriculum as applicable.
Communications
To maintain accurate, contemporaneous records in both patient records and electronic systems in relation to therapy undertaken and advice given in accordance with Trust and departmental policies. To undertake other case load related tasks e.g. filing etc.
To provide concise relevant information, both written and verbal, about children's progress to therapists and contribute to assessment and review reports as appropriate.
Answer the telephone, take messages and deal with enquiries on behalf of the ISCAN team. It may be necessary to take appropriate action e.g. pass on the information to the therapist involved, return the call or make a note in the message book.
To take part in the PDR process and clinical supervision as an attendee
Able to promote the development of the child/young person, through modelling and promoting reflective functioning and sensitivity to parents, in all settings.
Understand differences in parenting styles and levels of understanding, and be able to adapt communication accordingly, in order to achieve the best outcomes
Have an understanding of issues of equality, diversity and culture, and adapt communication effectively.
Be responsible for undertaking work with individual families and children in home, clinic, children’s centre or school settings, which is part of a plan of care delegated by the therapist or nurse.
Be responsible for reporting back findings and progress from work with children and families to the therapist or nurse, in order to inform planning and evaluation of care and management of risk.
Give advice to families on local voluntary and statutory agencies who may be a source of extra support.
Be responsible for making referrals to other agencies in response to identified needs, with guidance from a clinician.
Work with and liaise with other teams and partner voluntary and statutory agencies in order to meet the needs of children and families.
