Summary

The Infectious Disease and Microbiology research team in Bristol is seeking an ST1-5 level doctor to join our trial team as a clinical research fellow.

Vaccine research teams in Bristol have supported the delivery of clinical trials of COVID-19 vaccines that have subsequently been approved for use. Trials are delivered between North Bristol Trust (NBT), University Hospital Bristol and Weston (UHBW) and other hospitals in the West of England region with the support of the local Clinical Research Network. This work has now expanded supporting other commercial and academic studies studying all areas of infection among both inpatients and the community.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing research group in a vibrant city, based in the Research and Learning Centre at the new Southmead Hospital (run by NBT) and working in partnership with colleagues at the Bristol Royal Infirmary (run by UHBW) in the city centre. The post-holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of trials, including research governance, review of study participants and recruitment. In addition, post holders with the appropriate experience may have the opportunity to develop an independent research project to develop alongside the ongoing studies.

The post holder will work across the two sites and provide cross-cover for their counterpart of at UHBW for annual/study leave or to provide flexibility to develop research projects/gain clinical experience.

This is also a great opportunity for you to live and work in or around the historic port city of Bristol: gateway to the South West England. Bristol has its own thriving art, music and cultural scene hosting several exciting annual festivals such as the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta and the Bristol Harbour Festival. Bristol is also ideally located for the outdoors, being within easy range of the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean, Mendip and Cotswold Hills. Getting around the city is easy with Bristol being named as Britain's first cycling city in 2014. Consistently ranked as having the highest quality of life in England and Wales, it’s easy to see why Bristol has the highest retention rate of students post-graduation than any other UK city.

The Physician Associate works alongside the medical team. They assess and examine patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations, and recommend treatment. They liaise with other professionals and specialities as required and complete necessary documentation relating to their patients.
