Summary


To take venous bloods safely from patients on the wards and outpatient departments.

To take venous blood of good quality using aseptic techniques and ensuring minimum of pain and discomfort to the patient.

To make sure samples arrive at the labs safely.

To work within a team and also lone working,

To work with a computer on wheels using the EPR system

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our expanding phlebotomy team .

Phlebotomy experience is preferred but not essential.

Any training given will be mainly at the John Radcliffe

This role will be mainly covering the Horton Hospital in Banbury but you may also be required to work at the John Radcliffe and the Churchill hospitals in Headington covering wards and outpatients, and also the new Phlebotomy bus.

A driving license is essential as you will need to be able to get to all 3 hospitals and bus locations for a 7 am start.

• To take venous bloods safely from patients on the wards and outpatient departments.
• To check the identity of the patient, ensure than any special instructions have been followed (e.g. period of fasting) and to gain patients consent to proceed.
• To take venous blood of good quality using aseptic techniques and ensuring minimum of pain and discomfort to the patient.
• To make sure samples arrive at the labs safely
• To work within a team and also lone working,
• To work with a computer on wheels using the EPR system
• To work in an efficient manner to ensure the phlebotomy work is completed in the best practical time.
• To obtain and keep up to date with all learning
• To ensure that safe working practises are maintained in the interests of both staff and patients according to Trust and Departmental policies
• To co-operate with strategies to reduce cross infection
• To make judgements regarding the viability of taking blood
