Are you a Registered nurse (Adult or Children) with a passion for Safeguarding Children?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the right person to join our friendly and dynamic team within York Emergency Department, as the Paediatric Safeguarding Liaison Nurse. You will receive training and guidance on all aspects of safeguarding children to enable you to deliver high quality support and advice.

You will have the opportunity to develop your teaching skills, gain supervision experience and review and quality assure our safeguarding practices within the context of emergency care. You will be supported in developing quality improvement projects, to ensure that we meet the safeguarding standards as set out by the CQC, RCPH and RCEM.

You will work closely with both emergency departments and the safeguarding children’s team, as well as with the senior nursing staff and the clinical educator team in the ED.

You must have a good understanding of Safeguarding policies and procedures, as well as an understanding of current safeguarding children themes such as contextual safeguarding and the Think Family agenda.
• Reviewing attendances of all children with safeguarding concerns
• Reviewing attendances of adults with children with safeguarding concerns
• Teaching staff how to identify and manage safeguarding concerns that arise in the ED, both 1:1 and in groups
• Quality assuring referrals and practices and providing constructive feedback to staff
• Reviewing Paediatric frequent attenders
• Coordinating Paediatric Frequent attender meetings
• Liaison with Children’s Social care and other agencies
• Providing safeguarding supervision when required
• Updating CPD with relevant safeguarding information
• Act as a positive role model promoting quality evidence-based practice and Trust Values
• Act as a conduit between the ED and the safeguarding children’s team, staff and agencies, offering advice or guidance on issues relating to safeguarding children
• Additional duties
• Attending strategy, core group and CDOP meetings to share ED specific information
• Contribute to the design, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement projects in relation to safeguarding children in the emergency department
• Audits
• You must be committed to delivering training to all staff and have experience of working in an emergency department. You should understand the barriers and challenges to safeguarding that may arise in the ED and understand how to effectively overcome them. A working knowledge of adult safeguarding would be advantageous.
