Summary

Competently manage the day-to-day running and volunteer staffing of the coffee shop, ensuring that all regulations are being met and it is being run in an efficient and business-like manner.

Responsible for the recruitment and training of volunteers and paid schoolchildren and provide a safe working environment for work experience pupils from the local schools.

Overall responsibility for ensuring that the staffing and baking rotas are filled so that there is an adequate supply of homemade soup, homebakes and number of staff working for the safe running of the café.

You will be required to maintain accurate financial records for the income and outgoings of Loaves and Fishes and provide the Bennachie Parish General Treasurer with monthly financial reports and a year-end report.

Required to maintain the food hygiene requirements as specified by Food Standards Agency, Scotland and liaise with environmental health officers as required.

The role involves liaison with the Church Centre Management Committee about any maintenance requirements.

In addition to overseeing the day to day running of the café you may need to coordinate other catering events, these include funeral teas and full day catering for conference events which may involve working on a Saturday.

Essential Candidate Requirements :
The applicant has to be aware that the Loaves and Fishes is part of Bennachie Parish Church outreach into the community and, although not expected to be a Christian, will be expected to be conducive and sympathetic to this aim.

Also required are effective communication skills, Organisation, Computer literate, Numerate, People management, Time management, Willingness to learn

Desirable Skills and Experience:
Catering experience, management experience, bookkeeping experience, basic cooking and baking skills

Certification:
Required to hold or be able to apply for a valid PVG certificate for protection of children and young people and vulnerable adults. This can be applied for through the Church.
Required to hold or undergo training for first aid at work.
Required to hold a certificate for or undergo training for food hygiene.

Support:
You will be expected to be able to motivate yourself and work independently on a day-to-day basis, however you will have the support of the Loaves and Fishes management team which consists of coffee shop volunteers. You will be employed directly by the Bennachie Parish Kirk Session and will therefore also have the support of the Session (Administration committee), Ministers and the Session Clerk.

Hours and Remuneration:
You will be required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week and will receive 6 weeks of paid holiday per year – 2 of these weeks must be taken over Christmas when the coffee shop is closed for a month, the other 20 days will be at your discretion.

You will be paid on the last Friday of every month, net of national insurance and tax where due. You will be enrolled into a workplace pension scheme.
Your lunch and parking is provided during your working day.
