Our Graduate Scheme is designed to give you a positive start to your career in local government. You will be mainly based in the Environment and Operations team in Earls Road Depot.

You will provide support and assistance to the Bereavement Services team. You will gain experience in a range of areas of work and your duties will include:

  • Conducting on site assessments to evaluate the condition of headstones and identify stabilisation needs, this involves visual inspections, documenting instability/damage whilst assessing surrounding environment for factors that may contribute to degradation.
  • Collecting relevant data from each inspection, which may include measurements of tilt by using survey equipment, displacement, cracks, height, data collection will include photographs, utilising available software and plotting location.
  • Conducting risk assessments which may be based on category of risk, creating a programme of works based on risk.
  • Assisting Officers to procure contractor for remedial works to make headstones safe, and assisting with procurement of other environmental based contractual works.
  • Updating software to show completion of works once actioned.
  • Compiling findings into comprehensive reports documenting results of assessments.
  • Engaging with stakeholders which may include elected and public members and benchmarking with other Local Authorities.
  • Assisting existing team with identifying new burial space both at existing cemeteries and new sites.
  • Use of AutoCAD and geographical mapping systems ARC GIS, ESRI.
  • Undertaking training relevant to tasks associated with post which will support continued professional development.

You will have an HND or above in Landscape Architecture or Structural Engineering.

For our graduate scheme, it’s desirable for you to have graduated in the last 2 years. If you meet any of the additional desirable criteria below your application will be given priority:

  • Live in Falkirk Council area
  • Currently unemployed/employed for less than 16 hours per week
  • Not working in the professional area you are applying for

You will sometimes be required to travel to sites or meetings at other premises and in connection with work activities. A full driving licence is desirable (Pool cars are available).

This post is temporary until August 2026 to cover a temporary project.
