Summary

• Organises own specialist workload in conjunction with team and Trust requirements.
• Take an interest and comment key role in the way local services are organised and run related to specialist sphere of work.
• Maintain stock levels of equipment to ensure continuity in the delivery of specialist nursing care.
• Develop skills in co-ordinating care within the haematology day care unit.
• Set, monitor and maintain high standards of nursing care.
• Asses, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care with evidenced based practice, ensuring all procedures are carried out in line with Trust polices.
• Delivery of patient care and respond frequently to changing needs and environment.
• Be conversant with clinical risk management, management and investigation of clinical incidents, completing the appropriate documentation.
• Propose and implement changes to practice in own area.
• Store, check and administer drugs, including developing skills to administer cytotoxic chemotherapy adhering to local policy & guidelines.
• Contribute to the development of polices and procedures and facilitate their implementation.
• Support the transfusion practitioner in upholding safe transfusion activities within the trust,
• including maintenance of trust wide traceability, and assisting in the investigation, monitoring and auditing of adverse transfusion events.
• Attend and contribute to departmental meetings including; Hospital Transfusion Team and Hospital Transfusion Group meetings.

Haematology Nurse - Band 5

The primary focus of this role is to work the with clinical haematology team to develop our approach to the care and management of patients with haematological illness. Working closely with the Clinical Haematology team as a part of multi-professional working, you will promote safe practice and manage a haematology day care unit. Crucially you will create a positive and supportive environment for both staff and patients within the department. You will have the opportunity to develop skills required to care for patients and their families with haematological conditions.

In addition to the above the post holder will be require to support the senior transfusion practitioner with activity, including audit, maintenance of traceability and investigation of adverse events pertinent to transfusion,

The post holder must be a registered nurse and be willing to undertake further modules for development. This post will suit a motivational, empathetic and enthusiastic qualified nurse who understands the needs of patients & carers as well as the multidisciplinary team.

The post facilitates development to a senior haematology nurse post in the future, such a a clinical nurse specialist.
