Summary

SPEN are looking for a Designer to join their team based in either Bonnybridge or Glenrothes.

Role: Project Manager - Design
Business: Scottish Power Energy Networks
Duration: 12 months initial contract with possibility of extension
Rate: Inside IR35, Umbrella or PAYE options available
Location: Bonnybridge or Glenrothes/ site based role

Purpose
SP Energy Networks are experiencing an unprecedented level of network investment and demand for major connections. These works involve significant engineering deliverables at multiple sites across the SPD territory.
The Project Manager / Designer is responsible for the high-level planning and network design of the deliverables associated with these projects. It is expected that the successful applicant will support the District Head of Planning and Network Investment (HOPNI) by contributing to the Investment plans and designs that will deliver the District’s ED2 contract. Plans and designs must be produced in line with best practise, to a high standard of quality and within the required timescales.

Location
The role will be based at the Bonnybridge or Glenrothes offices. The successful candidate must be able to visit sites across the Central & Fife District area.

Responsibilities

• Support the HOPNI to develop the high-level plan that will deliver the District’s contribution to the ED2 Investment contract.
• The plan will be constantly updated in line with changing business priorities and delivery performance, so the role-holder must provide innovative and agile solutions to real-world issues.
• Responsible for production of high-quality electrical network designs that align with the District’s high-level plan.
• Responsible for the handover of designs to the delivery teams.
• Responsible for the District level forecasting of key service partners, direct labour and material reservation.
• Responsible for the delivery of outputs, incentive metrics and milestones in line with business targets. Effectively manage project risk and mitigate the impact of issues that may emerge.
• Responsible for the correct management and administration of contracts
• Develop accurate capital expenditure forecasts and output projections on assigned projects, with full accountability for project, contractual and financial governance.
• Responsible for the creation, management, and monitoring of project schedules in MS Project.
• Drive continual improvement by completing project and contract reviews, identifying lessons learned and sharing these with the wider business. Make proposals and introduce changes for best project management practice and behaviour across the wider project portfolio.


Skills & Requirements

• A proven track record of designing and/or delivering engineering projects, preferable within the electricity / utility sectors
• Project management skills and ability to devise solutions to complex problems
• Delivering designs to agreed quality standards and timescales
• Excellent written and oral communications skills
• Experience of customer management
• Experience of contractor management
• Ability to review, dispute and agree variation orders
• Experience of financial management
• An understanding of high-voltage electrical safety – training and authorisation will be provided
• Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
