Summary


The team at Southend University Hospital are currently looking for an existing Band 6 Physiotherapist looking for a new challenge or an experienced Band 5 physiotherapist ready to take the next step and develop with us into a competent and confident Band 6 within the Inpatient Acute setting.

We are a supportive therapy team looking to recruit a physiotherapist with a broad range of experience in core rotations, to join our team. The role involves working as part of a multi-disciplinary team on the acute inpatient wards.

This role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to engage others, with a proactive approach to service development. You will also demonstrate a strong commitment to a person centred approach in line with the Trust Values and Behaviours.

Together with the team leaders in our other in-patient specialities, you will support the Therapies Managers in the strategic and operational planning for the department.

The role offers opportunities to develop clinically and managerially within a friendly and supportive environment. Training and clinical development opportunities are available, with support to attend recognised courses within the area of your rotation to support your development in addition to providing comprehensive in-service training and regular clinical supervision. We will also support the development of your skills in appraisal management and leadership skills with relevant courses.

The rotations at Southend Hospital offer the opportunity to gain experience in the following areas:
• Surgery - including amputee rehab
• Oncology
• General Medical
• Critical Care
• Acute Respiratory Care Unit
• Respiratory Outpatients
• Admission Avoidance

Our Band 7 Team Leaders are highly experienced in their fields, providing support and training opportunities for personal development.

The role includes the supervision of students from University of Essex and University of Hertfordshire and the mentoring of Band 5 Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation Assistants. The role also includes on call and weekend working, for which we provide a comprehensive training package.

• To be responsible for the planning and delivery of high quality Physiotherapy with a focus on assessment, rehabilitation and safe discharge of patients within your care
• To provide individualised, clinically reasoned and evidence based care.
• To support patients with safe discharge into the community, providing onward referral to our community partners as appropriate to a patients needs.
• To assess and provide walking aids and equipment, ensuring the equipment is fit for purpose and that patients/carers/other team members are competent to use it safely.
• To train and support band 5 staff, assistants and carers.
• To provide regular clinical supervision and joint working opportunities for band 5 and unqualified staff
• To be involved in the planning, development and evaluation of clinical services within the area of the rotation
• To attend case conferences as appropriate to patient need, working with other health and social care professionals
• To respond effectively to changing needs of the patient caseload and make appropriate onward referrals to ensure needs are met after discharge from the service.
• To liaise with the rotation team leader on a regular basis.
• To attend multidisciplinary team meetings, and training sessions relevant to your role.
• To participate in supervision and accountability sessions provided by the band 7 physiotherapist which may include joint working.
