Summary


The ideal candidate will have extensive experience of male reproductive science and be ready to take the next step in their career. The candidate is likely to have at least 5 years experience in a specialist reproductive medicine laboratory service. They will be assisting the Andrology Lead in further developing and expanding the Andrology Service. We are particularly keen to further develop our growing sperm donor bank and we would expect the candidate to have significant previous experience in this area.

Supervision of the day to day running of the Andrology service.

Undertake/assist with line management duties for junior staff as required by the Andrology Lead.

Assist the Andrology Lead in the development of appropriate laboratory procedures.

Ensure the proper management of extra-contractual income and in particular that associated with the sales of sperm donors.

Provide supervision and training in andrology and associated procedures for laboratory staff.

Act as Quality Lead for the lab service.

Undertake regular and relevant CPD to ensure knowledge and skills remain current, and ensure other staff maintain their own professional development.

Participate in daily procedures associated with diagnostic semen analysis and post vasectomy testing.

Undertake the necessary legal consenting of patients prior to gamete storage.

Provide the Andrology Lead with support in the organization and development of procedures associated with sperm donor recruitment, interview, processing, cryopreservation and payment.

Participate in research projects which contribute to the departments and Trust’s research objectives.

NUH Life Fertility Service is a small but dedicated multidisciplinary team of Clinicians, Nurses, Healthcare Scientists and administration staff providing Fertility care to both men and women in the East Midlands region. The Andrology service compromises a small team of scientific staff providing diagnostic and therapeutic services to Nottingham and the wider region. The principal role is in the provision of diagnostic semen analysis and sperm processing for treatment using intra-uterine insemination (IU) and donor insemination (DI). The laboratory maintains the region’s largest sperm bank which is used for fertility preservation, mainly for patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy treatment or for the storage of sperm from semen donors. The Senior Andrologist will play a key role in consenting patients and donors for sperm storage, ensuring full compliance with current HFEA regulations.

This person will be competent in diagnostic semen analysis, sperm preparation for assisted reproduction and sperm cryopreservation. Scientific and technical knowledge and skills combined with excellent communication skills are essential attributes for this post, alongside demonstrable capability and experience of team leadership. The Senior Andrologist will act as deputy to the Andrology Lead in a number of areas of both clinical and academic areas of work.

The post holder will undertake the day to day running of the laboratory service and assist in its ongoing development in line with best practice and regulation including: continuous evaluation; development of procedures, monitoring and publication of outcome data.

The Senior Andrologist will play a key role as the Quality Lead for the laboratory service and should demonstrate a good awareness of Quality Management processes and their role in the provision of a high quality laboratory service.
