This is an exciting opportunity to join the Respiratory Medicine team and Epsom & St Helier Hospitals at a unique time. The Trust has made significant improvements as evidenced by its recent CQC rating and the unprecedented securing of £500m to finance a brand new acute service for its catchment of 500,000 population and local healthcare partners. An achievement we are particularly proud of.
The main activities of the post will be:
• To deliver consultant led inpatient care to respiratory and GIM patients on a 1 in 4 basis
• To give specialist advice to other ward areas and specialties
• To partake in bronchoscopy and pleural procedure lists
• To provide outpatient clinics with an option to provide subspecialty clinics e.g. lung cancer, ILD, TB, Long-COVID, Pleural and Nodule
• To partake in a 1 in 13 (Epsom) or 1 in 16 (St Helier) non-resident GIM rota dependent on Hospital site.
• To contribute to the weekly respiratory radiology meetings
• To contribute to teaching and continuing medical education of postgraduate and undergraduate students
• To contribute to the clinical governance work undertaken in the department including building on standards of best practice. This will include participation in audit and CPD.
• To contribute to the strategic direction of the respiratory department in conjunction with other staff at monthly departmental meetings in line with local and national strategic guidance.
We are looking for a committed, vibrant and enthusiastic colleague to join our cohesive Respiratory Team at Epsom and St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a Trust-wide post with cross site working being fully embedded within Respiratory Medicine department. This is a 10 PA post for a Consultant Respiratory Physician and has the relevant Royal College of Physicians accreditation and approval. Candidates will have the opportunity to discuss and express their preference of main work site at informal visits and prior to appointment if successful.
The role consists of 8 Programmed Activities (PA) of direct clinical care and 2 PAs for Supporting Professional Activity.
This post will be based predominantly on the Epsom site but there is an expectation of cross site working and delivering the service needs of the department in a flexible manner.
This is a proposal and the final work commitments will be agreed between the post holder and Epsom & St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust through the job planning process prior to commencement, to cater for subspecialty interests and site location.
Thereafter this will be reviewed annually with the clinical lead, service manager and clinical director. Any changes can be discussed and agreed at this annual review.
