Summary


Actively participate in and lead parenteral nutrition (PN) ward rounds at least twice weekly to review patients’ needs and place orders for required PN, after appropriate training

Provide specialist pharmaceutical advice to the intestinal rehabilitation team and the wider pharmacy team

Manage the pharmaceutical assessment and release of parenteral nutrition alongside a team of pharmacists

Lead ongoing service improvement projects within preparative services and the intestinal rehabilitation team

Oversee implementation of recent nice TAs, write and support with writing business cases for the joint therapeutics and drugs committee as necessary.

Design audits and participate in re-audit

Education and training of pharmacy staff and members of the intestinal rehabilitation team



1. To work alongside and provide clinical pharmaceutical expertise to the trust’s Nutrition and Dietetic Teams. This will involve liaising with multidisciplinary teams caring for patients with intestinal failure and Parenteral Nutrition requirements.

2. Work in partnership with the Production Lead Technician, Lead Pharmacist Production Services and Head of Pharmacy Quality Assurance to co-ordinate an efficient, safe and cost effective system for parenteral nutrition formulation review and logistics.

3. Enhance links and collaboration between Pharmacy and relevant clinical directorates in respect of pharmaceutical management of nutrition products.

4. To develop and maintain practices which provide quality assurance, and in particular to ensure that all production activities are controlled through compliance with approved procedures, and supported by appropriate documentation. To support and facilitate with the up keep and management of our pharmaceutical quality systems (QMS).

5. To co-operate in ensuring compliance with statutory regulations concerning pharmaceuticals, professional codes of practice, Health and Safety, and other relevant legislation, is complied with.

6. To assist in providing professional direction of pharmacy preparative services in liaison with the Lead pharmacist for production Technical Services and the Production Lead Technician.

8. To provide cover as required for Quality Assurance personnel for Medical Gases issues and release of unlicensed products.

9. To work in partnership with the e-hospital team to ensure the operation of the system is in accordance with Local and National legislative guidelines.

10. To work closely with the pharmacy clinical trials team to support non oncology clinical trial studies made that are to be prepared in pharmacy aseptic services.

11. To be an authorised Pharmacist taking on delegated duties by the accountable pharmacist - Lead Pharmacist Production Services
