An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Care Practitioner to join one of our care homes, Abergarw Care Home based in Bridgend and part of the Caron Group portfolio.

We are looking for a QCF Level 3 Senior Care Practitioner to join our family. As a Senior Care Practitioner in care, you’ll look after the physical, psychological and social needs of our residents to help us deliver the quality care they deserve.

*Key Responsibilities:

-To take control of medication round and administer medication

-To keep care plans up to date and input any new changes to each also updating wound care

-To ensure through monitoring and supervision that the staff team meet the needs and requirements of the residents.

-To supervise the team through regular Supervision and the Appraisal Process ensuring that targets set, are both appropriate and attainable.

-To maintain and increase the knowledge and skills of individual staff members through training and by utilising the Appraisal Process and advising on best practise Care Home based.

-To appropriately run shifts, ensuring that staffing levels are within the guidelines and all staff are used effectively during the shift and that accurate recording is undertaken as required.

-To assist residents who need help with dressing, undressing, toileting, bathing and feeding

-To provide adequate and appropriate care for residents confined to bed

-To take appropriate levels of care when handling property belonging to residents

-To help residents who have mobility problems and other physical disabilities. To assist in the use, maintenance and care of personal aids and equipment

-To promote the mental and physical wellbeing of residents through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreation

-To ensure that unnecessary damage to the building and contents is not caused by careless movement of residents property – wheelchairs etc

-To make and change beds, empty commodes, tidy rooms and undertake designated cleaning duties

-To inspect, launder and repair residents clothing

-To assist in the setting of tables and trays, preparing, serving and clearing away meals

-To answer emergency bells, the door and the telephone and greet visitors

-To read reports, take part in staff and residents meetings and in training activities as directed

-To make written observations of the resident

-To attend mandatory training courses relevant to the position as directed by the Managers.

-Practice safe systems of work across the range of tasks and in particular moving and handling of loads, by assessing risk and having due regard for personal safety and the safety of residents, visitors and staff

-Act courteously towards residents and their visitors, respecting the dignity and individuality of each resident.

-To undertake such duties as may be mutually determined from time to time.

-To work as a Keyworker to an allocated number of residents and to ensure their room is kept clean and tidy. As a Keyworker, you will also be responsible to ensure the resident has enough toiletries.

Additional Responsibilities – Night Duty

- Restock incontinence wear; gloves, aprons and all other personal care products

- Clean tables, chairs and remove kitchenware from bedrooms

- Clean all hoists and ensure that they are on charge.

- Empty and replace bins in bathrooms and sluice rooms

- Inspect and collect dirty laundry.

Requirements:

-QCF Level 3 Certification in Care (or equivalent)

-Minimum of 1 year experience within health and/or social care

-Basic literacy, numeracy and computing skills

-Good communication skills

-A proven record and passion in providing elderly care

-A desire to provide excellent care through skilled team management

-Ability to relate to and care for older people in a sensitive manner

-A sound understanding of the needs of the older person and the role of a SCP

-Integrity, compassionate nature and the ability to maintain a person’s dignity and respect

-Have a good knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety issues in Care Homes

-An understanding of and adherence to Caron Group’s ethos
