Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Gastroenterology department for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to be appointed as a Hepatology Support Nurse. This role supports the Clinical Nurse Specialist teams in delivering outstanding care to Hepatology patients as part of the Tertiary Hepatobiliary Service
The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the support and management of patients within the elective hepatobiliary service/planned care. Work as a member of the hepatobiliary team and undertake delegated tasks as required to support the service
Supporting the Clinical Nurse Specialist Teams to provide high quality care to the Hepatology patient cohort as part of the Tertiary Hepatobiliary Service
Help to support and co-ordinate the management of the elective paracentesis service
Assist in the the co-ordination and management of patients with haemochromatosis
Support the fibroscan service
Assist in the maintenance of patient databases
Be a point of contact to provide advice and support to liver patients as well as assisting in the running of the liver nurse hotline

Band 5 Hepatology Support Nurse – Main role responsibilities
Support of the elective paracentesis service to include:
-providing administration support
-organisation of pre procedure preparation
-liaising with patients
-management of patients during paracentesis
- audit of service
Support of haemochromatosis service to include:
-to provide administration support
-management of patient databases
-organising referrals for treatment when clinically indicated
-liaising with patients
-helping to maintain the haemochromatosis monitoring programme
- audit of service
Support of fibroscan service:
-undertake fibroscan (following training)
- monitoring of service following scan ensuring appropriate follow up care
Support for monitoring of Hepatology patients and databases:
-viral hepatitis, HBV and HCV
-Parenchymal liver disease, HCC surveillance
- Hepatology helpline service
