Summary


We are currently recruiting enthusiastic and motivated NHS Healthcare Cleaners/Ward Hosts to fill a number of part time roles to support within the Facilities Management Team at Colchester Hospital.

In addition to general cleaning of public areas and dealing with ad hoc tasks, e.g. clearing spills, the post holders may be required to carry out specialist cleaning duties, some of which are physically demanding. We are looking for conscientious individuals, who are able to use their initiative and manage their own workload.

We have the below shift patterns available :-

Monday - Friday - 07:30 - 13:30

Monday - Friday - 07:30 - 15:30

Monday - Friday - 13:30 - 20:00

Monday - Friday - 16:00 - 20:00

Basic numeracy and literacy skills will be required and having experience of working within a similar environment would be an advantage, but not necessarily essential, as full training will be given.

You will support Hotel Services to deliver a professional, efficient and cost effective service with regards to cleaning and the delivery of patient meals at Colchester Hospital.

You will be required to adhere to specific cleaning and caterings tasks without supervision, using the materials and equipment as they have been trained and instructed by the Facilities Coordinator. They will require a good understanding of COSHH and responsibilities for due diligence within the role

You will be required to engage with ward & departmental staff, colleagues, line managers, patients, relatives and other stakeholders and to deliver the highest standards of customer care and service to ensure a pleasant, safe, clean and welcoming environment

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific cleaning tasks will include but may not be limited to all of the following:
• Cleaning of high and low surfaces of furniture, fixtures, fittings, glassware, floors and sanitary areas within clinical and non-clinical areas using micro-fibre system and in line with National Cleaning Standards, Site Method Statements and Work Schedules
• Preparation, plating and service of breakfast and breakfast/late beverage (wards)
• Use/cleaning of dishwasher (loading, unloading and cleaning)
• Use/Cleaning of a toaster (making toast for patients)
• Use/Cleaning of a microwave (warming up porridge for patients)
• Emptying and re-lining of waste bins, collection, segregation and disposal of all types of waste according to Trust policies and procedures
• Vacuuming, mopping of floors (using micro-fibre system)
• Replenishing of soap, hand towels, toilet paper, alcohol gel (some areas)
• Mechanical maintenance of floors including scrubbing, buffing, carpet cleaning at agreed frequencies
• Steam cleaning equipment/commodes
• Changing of window and cubicle curtains
• To carry out all routine cleaning duties in accordance with the agreed cleaning schedule and task frequencies to maintain optimum cleaning standards.
• To respond to all reasonable additional ad-hoc requests for cleaning as and when required.
• To ensure that any cleaning rectification activity is undertaken promptly and thoroughly within the agreed timescale and standards
• Responsible for routine cleaning of all domestic/catering equipment
• Responsible for unlocking/locking doors in areas that are closed to enable cleaning to commence and to secure once completed.
• To bring all dirty laundry they have used throughout their shift to be laundered at the designated area and at the end of each shift
• Notify Ward Staff/Facilities Coordinator of faulty equipment, building/equipment repairs, maintenance requirements and requests for personal protective equipment.
• Other appropriate duties as requested
