Salary: £22,366 to £22,737 pro rata p.a plus shift allowance if applicable, (£9,067 to £9,217 for 15 hours).

Hours: 15 Hours per week

The Service:

Shearwater is in Milton area of Portsmouth and is a purpose built 60 bed dementia residential home, which opened in August 2009. The accommodation is spread over 3 floors in units of 20 per floor. All bedrooms have a private ensuite with a shower.

We currently have around 100 staff working different floors throughout the home. The second floor is currently not occupied and is being used for the council's contingency plan plus activity area for residents.

Our philosophy is to encourage independence, though we recognise severe dementia may require residential care. We promote well-being through person centred activities and supporting diversity.

The Role:

You will be allocated to a specific wing of the unit, where you will be responsible for either carrying out general cleaning duties to include lounges, dining rooms, occupational rooms, cleaner's stores, bedrooms with ensuite facilities, stairs, corridors, halls, office areas, bathrooms, toilets and sluices, or supporting with meal preparation ensuring food is presented to high standards, ensuring kitchen areas, fridges, are kept clean and well stocked, liaising with the kitchen to stock as required, checking temperatures of Fridges and recording as required. Carrying out any general tasks required each shift. You will be required to assist with collection and refilling of jugs and making of beds, as required, and after Liaison with the Day Team Leader/Assistant manager or cook as appropriate depending on role.

There will be occasions when you will need to do a deep clean such as washing down walls and paintwork, upholstery, and furnishings as well as reporting verbally or in writing any defects to furniture, fittings and equipment to the assistant manager of the day.

What you'll need to succeed

Who is the person?

You need to:

  • Have previously undertaken Ancillary work in a day centre /residential setting.
  • Be able to work to a schedule and complete all allocated tasks within specified time.
  • Be willing to undertake the wide range of cleaning and general duties in the kitchen, laundry.
  • Be flexible with duties to cover other domestic when on holiday/sickness to undertake within the scope of the Band 2 Ancillary role.
  • Be willing to undertake all mandatory training and non- mandatory training relevant to role including Safeguarding Awareness, H&S, COSHH, infection control, GDPR and Dysphagia.
  • Be willing to undertake training for level 2 Food Hygiene Awareness.
  • Be willing to undertake training/follow guidance for any machinery applicable to your job role such as floor cleaners, kitchen equipment, laundry machines.
  • Be able to demonstrate empathy for elderly people with support needs offering service users privacy, respect, dignity, and choice.
