An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and highly motivated Haematology Consultant with a specialist interest in Myeloma /Lymphoma to Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Kings Mill Hospital.

As a consultant here at Kings Mill you will become one of our five Haematologists providing clinical and laboratory Haematology services to Sherwood Forest Hospitals. You would also participate in the on-call Haematology service which includes ward rounds and out of hour service (1:5 rota currently). You would be expected to take part in business planning of the Haematology services in collaboration with the other consultants in the department and hospital management

The post will be based largely at King's Mill Hospital (KMH), potentially with out-patient sessions at Newark Hospital.

• The provision, with consultant colleagues, of a comprehensive in-patient and out-patient service in Clinical Haematology
• The provision, with consultant colleagues, of a comprehensive high quality laboratory service to the Trust and Primary Care Any
responsibilities relating to the special interest of the appointee

• To share responsibility for professional standards and quality control in the laboratory, ensuring compliance of standards to satisfy United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)
• To participate in business planning in collaboration with the other Consultant Haematologists

• Administrative duties will include those associated with the clinical care of patients and those associated with the area of interest within the laboratory and as defined by the Head of Service

• The appointee will contribute to the organisation and management of the department, including the provision of advice on strategies and short-term planning via the Head of Service and Divisional Manager

• Out of hours responsibility will be shared equally with the other consultants and will include laboratory, transfusion and clinical cover. This will be on a rota of 1 in 5 weekends and usually one weekday overnight per week

• The appointee will take an active part in clinical audit within the department and will be expected to contribute to the production of relevant clinical guidelines
• The appointee will be expected to fulfil the obligatory requirements for CPD for the Royal College of Pathologists. Study leave funding will be made available by the Trust
• The appointee will be required to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training and will be responsible for achieving accreditation as required
• The appointee will be expected to participate in the monthly laboratory seminars, which are accredited for CPD for the laboratory staff, and in the weekly medical division educational programme
• The appointee will undergo an annual appraisal in accordance with the Trust policies for Appraisal and Job Planning. Time will be allocated within the job plan for such activity and the individual can select a suitable appraiser from the Trust list of consultants who have been trained in the appraisal process
• The appointee will be aware of local management policies where relevant, including relevant financial policies and statutory regulations including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and any local policies relating to that Act
• The appointee may be required to undertake other unspecified duties as appropriate for a Consultant Haematologist
