Summary
An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated senior cancer nurse who is passionate about metastatic breast cancer to support metastatic breast cancer patients attending Frimley Park hospital.
Applications for this post are invited from experienced nurses who have had extensive experience in oncology and breast cancer; previous experience of a specialist nursing post at band 6/7 level is essential. We are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking individual who is flexible, self-motivated, and reliable and a good team player and leader. You should also be educated to degree level or be be willing to work towards Masters level.
The post holder should be willing to develop their academic and clinical practice and be committed to continuing education. You should have advanced communication skills and experience of managing a case load of patients.
• The post-holder will act as Keyworker for metastatic breast cancer patients and some newly diagnosed breast cancer patients providing a link between patients and health care professionals across primary, secondary and tertiary care and act as an advocate for patients/families
• The post-holder will continually develop, implement and evaluate the Metastatic Breast Cancer Service to improve and maintain standards of patient care and promote a seamless service within a multi-professional framework
• The post-holder will be a clinical expert in breast cancer with excellent communication skills. The role requires the ability to work autonomously and independently but within an integrated collaborative team.
• The post-holder will establish services with the aim of providing support and early referral to associated services for metastatic breast cancer patients to include those undergoing cancer treatments

• To be a point of contact/key worker for patients diagnosed with a breast malignancy at pre-diagnosis, during treatment, in the follow up period and when metastatic disease is diagnosed whether face to face or via the telephone
• Utilise advanced communication and counselling skills when discussing diagnosis, prognosis and treatment options for metastatic breast cancer with sensitivity and expertise
• Work autonomously and demonstrate advanced practice by managing a caseload of patients and demonstrate advanced practice in the holistic assessment, physical assessment and non-medical prescribing and evaluation of care promoting the philosophy of person-centred care for patients
• Implement and manage telemedicine clinics and outpatient nurse led clinics which will include Enhanced Supportive Care clinics
• To be responsible for maintaining high standards of patient care and contribute to clinical audit
• To provide psychological support and symptom control for patients diagnosed with both early and advanced breast cancer in a clinic, ward setting and telephone support
• Use patient feedback to develop relevant support structure including support groups
• Visit thein-patient ward areas including ED/AAU and review patients, where appropriate, providing guidance and information relevant to their care
• Provide specialist, expanded roles of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures where necessary
• Provide specialist advice to support ward staff when patients are admitted ensuring all medical and nursing needs are understood and carried out in accordance with Trust standards and policies
• Act as a leader, advisor and role model to less experienced nurses, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated
• Work collaboratively with the Acute Oncology Team, the Cancer Navigators/Support Workers and the Specialist Palliative Care team to enhance patient care and management.
