Summary
In collaboration with the Directorate Operational Team and Deputy Clinical Director for Gastroenterology & Endoscopy , the post holder will be responsible for the strategic and operational management of the Gastroenterology, Endoscopy & Hepatology services at OUH.
To ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day running of the Gastroenterology & Hepatology Department within the Gastroenterology, Endoscopy and Theatres (GET) Directorate and delivering quality, performance and financial plans, achieving key service improvements within the GET Directorate and line managing appropriate staff within designated clinical units.
This is a key position within the Directorate and in addition to the above, the post holder will be responsible for:
- Providing assurance to the Trust team regarding the management of patient pathways, to meet all elective access targets
- Indirect line management of a team of administrators operating across both the Horton and John Radcliffe sites, including recruitment, performance reviews and other HR issues
- Work in close collaboration with the key stakeholders within the Directorate, including the OSM team, Clinical Leads and Nursing colleagues
- Maintain broad oversight and ongoing support to both the Gastroenterology Ward and Day Case Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital
- Organise and arrange extra Gastroenterology & Hepatology outpatient lists as required and agreed
- Manage the Endoscopy targets, flexing capacity as required to maintain the DM01 and cancer targets position.
- Manage the Gastroenterology Medirota system

Service Delivery
• The post holder is responsible for supporting the OSM within the GET Directorate in the achievement of all elective access targets.
• To provide assurance to the Trust team regarding the management of patient pathways to meet all relevant RTT pathways and targets.• To be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of all waiting lists ensuring best practice (PTL Management) is applied in line with national recommendations.
• To be responsible for ensuring regular routine validation occurs in accordance with best practice to ensure the waiting list is ‘clean’ at all times.
• To be responsible for ensuring that systems are in place to achieve delivery of the Directorates patient access targets, via the implementation of new processes and procedures and updating the OSM on at least a weekly basis.
• The post holder has overall responsibility for the operational management of the Gastroenterology, Endoscopy & Hepatology waiting lists to monitor and take action to ensure that all quality, productivity and profitability targets are achieved. This will involve:
• Continuously monitor service capacity to ensure that it meets demand in order that national and local targets are met.
• Inform the OSM of any probable breaches and agree further plans to eliminate these.
• Develop access plans for any patient at risk of breach, and ensure plans are communicated to and agreed with all relevant staff.
• In conjunction with the clinical service, ensure that patients are booked in accordance with clinical priority and length of wait.
• Manage the Gastroenterology Medirota, ensuring this is truly reflective of clinical activity within the department.
• Maintain a broad oversight and provide ongoing support to Gastroenterology & Hepatology Day Case Units and Wards, working closely with Ward Admin, Ward Sisters, the Matron and the OSM to ensure that activity is captured, and areas of concern are escalated as required.
• Organise and arrange extra Gastroenterology, Endoscopy & Hepatology outpatient lists as required and agreed.
• Work with the Directorate team to ensure access to additional lists as required/ available/ affordable.
• Travel between the John Radcliffe Hospital and the Horton Hospital in Banbury.
