Working in partnership with the local authority, Ynysowen and Coed-Y-Dderwen Primary School are seeking to appoint a Family Engagement Officer on a temporary contract to develop the philosophy and practice of Community Focused Schools.
A community school is defined as one that has the best interests of learners, families and the community at its heart. These schools reach out to engage families and work with the wider community, knowing the difference this can make to the success of all pupils in the school, particularly those who are disadvantaged by poverty (Estyn, 2020)
The LA has been part of the WG pilot looking at new models of community focused schools, the research being focused on the above schools and their communities. Both schools are actively seeking to further develop existing community partnerships, which serve to support community needs, and learning with the long-term aim being to provide comprehensive integrated services to the most disadvantaged children and families. Partnerships will be developed with a range of stakeholders including third sector organisations and creative agents to develop within children, young people and their families the drive to raise aspirations for the future and raise standards of learning enabling the local economy and wider to thrive and flourish.
This is an exciting opportunity to be involved at the inception of this approach and the schools and the local authority are looking for someone who:-
• Has a flexible and co-operative attitude and is comfortable working across two school communities (2.5 days in each school)
• Has high levels of effective communication
Experience working with communities is desirable but not essential.
• Can work under pressure and are receptive to new ideas
• Are highly motivated
• Are capable of creative problem solving
• Able to drive and have their own transport
Is proactive and is able to work off own initiative.
Has excellent people skills.
Is willing to work with and be guided by other experienced engagement officers
