SHINE Team, Almondbank House, Perth
We have a vacancy for a Social Worker in our new and developing SHINE team. This team is part of Perth and Kinross Children and Young People and Families. They provide support to children and young people with ASD and/or other complex or additional needs.
The focus of the team is to provide families and other professionals with advice, support, strategies, and skills to promote positive change. This will involve direct work on specific pre agreed outcomes.
The assigned worker will have regular contact with the young person, their family and work in a collaborative way with all involved professionals. We operate an outcomes-focused approach to try and support the challenges that the child / young person may be facing at home, school and/or other places. These challenges may include:
• Eating issues
• Sensory processing issues
• Sleeping difficulties
• Behaviour challenges
• Establishing boundaries and routines
• Understanding and communicating feelings
• Personal care advice e.g., toileting/ showering
• School Attendance related to transition and anxiety
• Peer relationships and socialising

You will contribute towards assessment plans and packages of support to enable children, young people their families to overcome some of the barriers and challenges they may be experiencing as a result of their disability.
You will be based in Perth, but will be supporting children and young people throughout the whole of the Perth & Kinross Council area.
Requirements
You must have a recognised qualification in Social Work. You must be a qualified Social Worker (Dip SW or Degree).
A knowledge / an interest of working with children with additional needs is required.
You will have an ability to work collaboratively with other agencies and services.
You will have comprehensive assessment skills and an ability to work independently.
You will be well organised, able to prioritise and manage competing demands.
The role will also require you to be compassionate, confident and clear in your communication.
You will be able to demonstrate high standards in written work and have a clear understanding of the needs of vulnerable children and families.
You will need to be flexible, supportive and approachable.
You will have a commitment to continued professional development.
You must be registered as a social worker with the SSSC.
You must have a valid UK driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross and beyond.
The Individual
You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with professionals from other teams and services.
You will have the ability to demonstrate high standards in written work and have a clear understanding of the needs of vulnerable children and families.
Some experience of child protection work and previous experience or knowledge of the needs of children with additional needs is desired.
This post may be suitable for candidates who have recently completed their Social Work Degree but have not yet graduated. In this circumstance, a Social Work Assistant contract will be offered until you receive your qualifying certificate and are eligible to register with the SSSC as a Social Worker.
