Summary

Job Title: Domain Architect

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract – 18 Months

Salary: £62,051

Working Hours: 35 hours per week

Working Pattern: 9-5 Monday to Friday, Flexible, Hybrid

The difference you will make as a Domain Architect

The role will own the Solution Designs for a number of projects across the Group, with particular focus on implementing Oracle Finance. The Domain Architect will work within the Digital and Technology Team but will be assigned to various squads and project delivery teams as required in order to deliver data and application solutions as part of the overall delivery objectives.

About you

We are looking for someone with:

• Proven experience working as a Domain Architect or similar role

• In-depth knowledge of Solution Architecture tools and techniques

• Experience using standard solution architecture modelling notations and modelling tools

• Knowledge of Finance systems and processes (Oracle would be a distinct advantage)

• Thorough understanding of information and data security

• Understanding of architecture frameworks and methods such as The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF)

Role Profile

  • Define the IT solution scope and deliverables for assigned projects ensuring alignment to business needs and strategic objectives, as well as the target IT Strategy, IT Architecture and IT roadmaps.
  • Lead the definition of the end-to-end IT solution design (covering the application, data and infrastructure aspects) in line with the project requirements and ensuring that the subsidiary lower-level architecture and design product are compliant with the end-to-end solution design.
  • Ensure good design principles are maintained so that non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, availability, reliability, operability and security are appropriately elaborated and addressed.
  • Produce agreed solution designs in accordance with agreed scope, timeframe, financial and quality measures.
  • Evaluate and undertake impact analysis on the IT solution options available to ensure the most appropriate solution meets IT and business requirements, gaining approval from the Architecture Governance Board as appropriate.
  • Support change impact assessment processes and work/pipeline/demand planning activity as required by the project pipeline management process owners.
  • Provide appropriate contributions to any IT related Invitations to Tender and Requests for Proposal, as well as supporting the evaluation of associated responses.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders effectively in relation to IT solution design, including third-party suppliers and partners, building constructive relationships to deliver business objectives by creating an inclusive, supportive and professional environment.
  • Ensure any key IT architecture risks are identified and managed during the project lifecycle.
  • Support the Project Manager with the estimating and resource planning of the IT solution design aspects of the project.
  • Manage the coordination of any required technical resources needed to assist in defining the IT solution.
  • Actively participate in the Group’s wider IT Architecture community to ensure knowledge, understanding and best practice is shared effectively.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and procedures.
  • Ensure that all Information Security requirements, including data protection, are met in accordance with the Group’s policy, procedures and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure that health and safety requirements are met in accordance with the Group’s policy, procedures and statutory requirements.
  • Respond flexibly to any necessary changes in work priorities and undertake other duties when required to support the effective operation of the service.

Person specification

Essential

  • Proven track record of successfully defining IT solutions for significant projects, working within a structured development environment in a complex, multi-site organisation.
  • Experience leading composite technical teams formed internally and from delivery partners
  • In-depth knowledge of solution architecture tools and techniques.
  • Experience of implementation and support of industry standard IT practices.
  • Experience of working with multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
  • Experience using standard solution architecture modelling notations and modelling tools
  • Thorough understanding of the issues surrounding information and data security and validity.
  • Evidence of effective stakeholder management, including at a senior level, both internally and external to the organisation.
  • Effective negotiation skills and the ability to successfully persuade and influence others.
  • Customer focused with excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work at all levels within the business.
  • Ability to show initiative and mitigate the impact of emergent risks or propose solutions to issues identified
  • Ability to identify residual accrued risk (technical debt) and shape remediation work
  • Results focussed with the ability to take ownership of tasks.
  • Commercially aware with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Excellent team player who can work flexibly to meet business requirements

Desirable

  • Understanding of lean business re-engineering principles and processes.
  • Understanding of architecture frameworks and methods such as The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF).
  • Understanding of sustainable hybrid Agile techniques such as SAFE
  • Understanding of DevOps and continuous integration/delivery pipeline
