Summary

Finance & Tax Assistant

A new, exciting opportunity for a full-time Finance & Tax Assistant to join a busy office in Sherborne working with a mixed of finance and tax compliance.

You will need to be confident, willing to learn with excellent organisation, communication and IT skills.

Salary- £25-35,000 DOE.

The successful candidate will work on a portfolio of entities and individuals for whom they will:

  • Ensure all finance functions and accounting records are maintained accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Maintain personal tax records of worldwide information, for UK self-assessment tax returns, drafting required calculations for example capital gains disposal computations.

  • Undertake all prime entry bookkeeping tasks.

  • Prepare regular bank account reconciliations.

  • Manage the sales and purchase ledgers.

  • Process bank payments as required, including payments of self-assessment tax to HMRC.

  • Maintain all fixed asset registers, ledgers and control accounts accurately.

  • Prepare management accounts to trial balance and assist with the preparation of year end accounts with supporting files for internal and external review. Includes preparation of sole trader and property rental income and expenditure information for tax returns.

  • Assist with the preparation of VAT returns ensuring these are submitted on time.

  • Undertake project work as required including ad-hoc tax research

Monday to Friday 08:30 to 17:15 with a one-hour unpaid lunch break between 13:00 and 14:00. Following an initial training/probationary period the successful candidate will be given the option to work from home for a period of time each week, the number of days will be dependent on the needs of the business and the type of role they occupy.

Any candidates for the Finance and Tax Assistant role that are not Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) qualified must be willing to go down that route and have a genuine interest in working in that field as their Finance work will be geared towards reporting that flows onto tax returns or has a particular tax angle. Ideally candidates for the dual role will already be Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualified.

Salary c.25 - 35k.

Formal studies for the ATT (Association of Taxation Technicians) qualification will be supported by targeted, on the job training and support.
