A fantastic opportunity to work for a high-profile local government department for a Senior Policy professional who has experience and knowledge in UK Financial Services. This role is with an immediate start, is initially for 4 months in duration and offers hybrid working options.
The successful candidate will lead the department's work on UK financial services and skills policy. In collaboration with the Policy & Innovation Director, they will identify priorities for the financial services policy and skills policy teams and deliver on the teams' annual business plan and the local government departments Competitiveness Strategy.
The role holder will also lead the work of shaping the legislative and regulatory environment facing London as a financial services centre. Specifically, this role is responsible for working with industry, policymakers and regulators at the domestic and global level to ensure that the political leadership has the best advice and content for their international and domestic advocacy work.
The role requires a collaborative approach, and it will involve the development of strong relationships with senior domestic and international policymakers as well as financial institutions and businesses.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Work in close partnership with all relevant departments to ensure a coherent and strategically aligned approach to sustaining the competitive position of the financial and professional services industry while supporting and aligning with relevant corporate goals.
- Provide strategic direction for and steer the development of the department's work in relation to financial services regulatory policy and skills policy.
- Be a leading technical expert on UK financial services regulation and policy.
- Regularly review and update the policy and engagement approach for key UK policy issues and stay up to date on emerging industry priorities, so the UK remains a globally leading FPS centre.
- Provide briefings and policy advice to the Policy Chair, Lord Mayor and Senior members and Officers.
- Build quality relationships with trade associations and firms to further the Corporation's policy advocacy.
- Lead and manage the financial services policy branch and the skills' policy branch, working closely with the Policy & Innovation Director. Ensure delivery of the agreed work objectives of the full team.
