Summary

Personal Care Assistant for a young girl P/T@ £13.09/hr in Riding mill - Maternity Cover

Apply at UKCIL.com. Reference: c5974f98

We are looking to recruit a maternity cover to work as a Support Assistant to work alongside our family to support our 11-year-old daughter who has severe cerebral palsy.

We are a family of 4 plus a dog living in the beautiful Tyne Valley. Our daughter is a bright and intelligent girl who tries hard to be as independent as she can be. She doesn’t have the use of her arms or legs and uses a variety of aids to sit and move around.

She loves playing on her iPad, watching TV, playing games, doing crafts, painting and shopping! She is a communicator, although she doesn’t like loud noises. She is verbal too and loves to chat!

She has a peg fitted for feeding and is on a set of medication to help her. She has complex care needs due to her physical disabilities and requires the use of a wheelchair to move around, which she is unable to do independently. A recent diagnosis of Dystonia, a movement disorder which can cause painful muscle spasms and contractions, means that medication is required to help with the management of her discomfort. She has a peg fitted for feeding and is fully dependent on others for her personal care.

The role will be within the home and out and about in the local area, mostly after school and on school holidays but may include occasional weekends. We have some flexibility as to when the hours are worked and would appreciate some flexibility from the right candidate if possible. The ideal candidate would have some experience or knowledge of cerebral palsy, PEG feeding and giving medication, however training can be given.

A driving license would be advantageous to be able to take our daughter out in her wheelchair adapted vehicle.

The role would be perfect for someone who has experience of working professionally with children, perhaps in a school or in a childcare setting or previous heal care experience.

Hours: 5 hours per week with an additional 5 hours per week during all school holiday weeks - Please note this is a maternity cover position

· Support Required Wednesday or Thursday evening for approximately 4 hours
· Every 4 weeks a Friday or a Saturday evening would also be preferred
· Further discussions on hours to be had at interview

Rate of pay: £13.09 per hour. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro-rata.

Person Specification Ideal applicant should have:
· Have at least 12 months experience working with children who have disabilities
· Have a positive understanding towards children with disabilities
· Have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs
· Have a high degree of initiative
· Be punctual and reliable as the child cannot be left unsupervised
· Be flexible
· Have a happy, positive and caring nature
· Respect confidentiality

An Enhanced DBS Check is required, cost to be met by employer.
Out of pocket expenses will be met by the employer.
