Summary

A dynamic new role has arisen with my client, a world leader in their field, who are seeking an ESG Lead to join their UK & Ireland operations.

Role - Environmental, Social and Governance Lead

Location - Remote based, but will require travel across the UK & Ireland

Report to - Sustainability Director

Package - Up to £75,000 per annum plus 20% bonus

Purpose of the role

  • Identify, advise and implement new ESG reporting and disclosure practices, based on a deep understanding of requirements from regulators, investors/lenders and sustainability actors.
  • Accountable for establishing a region wide ESG compliance framework to maintain visibility of compliance obligations
  • Develop and implement governance to monitor and improve compliance against the compliance obligations.
  • Develop and deploy regional ESG standards and processes for all segments and platforms within the UK&I.
  • Lead the preparation of external annual ESG reports and responses to ESG information requests from external stakeholders including rating agencies, investors and others
  • Oversee the annual ESG data collection process, ensuring that data is timely and accurate. Continuously improve the ESG reporting internal control environment supporting auditable and efficient reporting processes.
  • To drive revenue and deliver margins; meeting the needs of our clients, through embedding new ESG requirements through our services and offers.
  • To support and enable business growth and retention through authentic, credible and transparent sustainability positioning in the market.
  • Accountable to improve sustainability while balancing and capitalising on the political landscape, economic, technological & social aspects through delivery of Global CR strategy and UK&I Social Impact Pledge
  • Overall ownership of continued (and future) relevant ESG certifications and registrations, including ISO 14001.


Job Description
Regulation and Assurance

  • Anticipate regulatory trends and implications to the organisation.
  • Align with risk management policy and procedures to ensure adherence to ESG laws and regulations that impact the organisation including statutory accounts disclosures for investors and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of legal entity structure of the client to ensure effective governance of external validation and compliance for auditors.
  • Accountable to ensure ESG is maintained and considered within business investment and divestment decisions including M&A.

Disclosures and Reporting

  • Manages external ESG reporting and disclosure activities with a continuous improvement approach to support organisation value, positioning of organisation and align with brand and employee value proposition.
  • Ensures alignment with ESG disclosure requirements and best practices
  • Point of contact for internal inquiries regarding annual ESG performance data and information
  • Utilise data for effective reporting and to drive insights
  • Align statutory disclosures with finance and legal

Collaborate and Embed

  • Collaborate across the organization; leaders, data owners, technical functions, internal audit and external assurance including Group to support clear standardised reporting methodology to support accurate reporting and disclosures.
  • Ensure business held to account for the role they play within ESG requirements
  • Support organization to respond to new ESG requirements
  • Be the technical lead for organization to understand what changes required connecting with programme managers to support change process.

Engagement

  • Establish routines to reinforce changes demonstrating credibility and accessibility by aligning with existing tools, systems and culture.


Main assignments
ESG expertise

  • Navigate the complex set of ever-evolving environmental challenges translating them effectively to support the client's market position.
  • Stay up to speed on developments across the wider external environment agenda and bring key insight internally
  • ESG monitoring and reporting, collation of data and metrics aligning to reporting standards, benchmark with industry peers. Align with legal and finance to ensure effective ESG reporting within statutory accounts and Group's Universal Registration Document.

Accountability

  • Awareness of ESG landscape and supports organisation to prepare to face into requirements
  • Technical lead for organisation to understand what requirements are needed
  • Completion of ESG reporting and disclosures

  • Enable the client to leverage success to win customers, talent and investment through effective reporting and disclosures reflecting the values and brand of the client.
  • Ability to navigate organisation developing beneficial collaborations and partnerships across multiple functions including supply management, brand & communications, corporate affairs, tech & services, legal & finance, and operational teams

  • Engage, understand and support operations to maximise impact

Candidate Specification
Expertise

  • Understanding and application of the political, economic, and technological landscape
  • Membership level of a professional body i.e., IEMA
  • Knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks and indices such as CDP, GRI and DJSI
  • Application of environmental management system to drive improvements.
  • Leadership
  • Strong organisational and collaboration skills, combined with ability to prioritise and meet tight deadlines on multiple projects/tasks in a demanding working environment - can be trusted to deliver
  • A track record of working effectively and collaboratively, combined with strong influencing skills, to bring about change

Communication

  • Able to influence key internal stakeholders providing confidence regarding ESG and its impact across the organisation
