Summary

A Vacancy at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.


A Consultant ENT Surgeon with a specialist interest in Otology and general ENT, working at the Mid & South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, base site Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.

The Ear Nose and Throat Directorate provide out-patient clinics, ENT elective surgery for adult and paediatric patients and Head and Neck Services throughout region. The appointee will join 3 Consultant ENT colleagues and will participate in a 1:8 out of hours on call service.

Successful applicants will be expected to have FRCS or equivalent and take part in clinical audit and supervision of research by Specialist Registrars as well as be on the GMC Specialist Register.

AAC date: 12th April 2024.

The clinical commitments of this post will include elective and emergency Ear Nose and Throat surgery at Broomfield Hospital. If appropriate other complimentary subspecialist interests can be developed.

You will also be pro-actively involved in improving the emergency service provided by the service, ensuring earlier transfer of acute Ear Nose and Throat patients to the speciality, improved decision making and earlier diagnosis.

Job plans will be formally reviewed within the first 6 months after appointment and agreed according to evidence from actual activity. All consultants will be allocated 1.5 core SPA per week for professional development (CPD), Job Planning, Appraisal, Mandatory Training, attendance at regular team meetings which will have a clinical governance aspect and participating in Audit. Core SPA time will generally be undertaken within the Trust. Any variation from this principle must be discussed, agreed and made clear within the Consultant Job plan.

Additional SPA time will be made available to Consultants on the basis of evidenced need. Such allocation will be agreed and subsequently reviewed by the Consultant and their Head of Department during the Job Plan review session. Additional (non- core) SPA time will be undertaken within the Trust or at other agreed NHS sites or academic institutions during the normal working day.
