PURPOSE OF JOB

I am looking to recruit a PA to support my son to access activities he enjoys within the community while helping to develop his life skills. These activities could include going to the cinema, going for walks and meals locally. In time, you will also assist him with tasks such as cooking, shopping, cleaning and laundry to build up his skills and confidence in these areas. He generally does not need physical support but benefits from reminders, prompts and modelling of correct actions and behaviours.

My son is autistic so experience of working with autistic people would be beneficial. He is 19 years old and now and starting in college and as such I would like the candidate to build a relationship and rapport with him through this transitional period.

The ability to drive and use of your own car would be beneficial.

Mileage will be reimbursed at a rate of 40p per mile.

SUPERVISION

My son’s personal assistant will be directed by and accountable to me in their work.

He/She must always have a full appreciation of the importance of following routines and the minor details that are often so important to an autistic person. He/She must be proactive in asking when unsure and seeking my guidance and assistance particularly in the early stages of the employment. I will provide a supportive approach, working collaboratively to develop a strong partnership for everyone’s benefit.

MAIN DUTIES

My personal assistant will be required to do the following tasks and may be asked to carry out other tasks of a similar nature.

We can be flexible with the timings of work so as to fit in with other commitments you may have. The 6 hours + contact time would need to take place either after school or weekends.

Also, I am happy to support you in your work while forming an understanding of and relationship with my son.
