Autism Care Assistant for a young boy P/T @ £10.82/hr in Bedlington
UKCIL Job reference: ab0805d4

POST: | Support Worker
LOCATION: | Bedlington
JOB PURPOSE: | To provide enabling support for a 10-year-old male child with a diagnosis of Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy, Autism and LD
REF: | NP/BEDL Main Duties We are looking to recruit a support worker to provide 1:1 support for the child both at home and to access age-appropriate activities in the community. We would prefer a car driver, with a full, clean driving licence, access to their own vehicle and insured with business use insurance. The child has a diagnosis of Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy, autism and LD, chronic lung disease and is visually impaired. He makes use of a wheelchair when needed, such as on longer excursions. We require somebody to support with promoting his independence and providing him with 1:1 time away from his siblings. Somebody who can support by giving him something of his own to look forward to each week would be of preference. The child loves being outside and enjoys visits to the beach and park, He does prefer quieter places as he can become overwhelmed in busy, noisy environments. A support worker who can offer encouragement with transitions and build strong, appropriate relationships is essential as the young man can be shy in unfamiliar places, with unfamiliar people. He is like any other 10-year-old child and loves games and using technology when not out and about. He has very limited awareness of risk and danger and requires support to ensure he remains safe at all times. Hours
  • 2 Hours per week
  • Hours to be used in a block on a weekend (either Saturday or Sunday) (flexibility in school holidays may be required)
Rate of pay £10.82 per hour. Holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year pro-rata. Out-of-pocket expenses will be paid by the employer. Person Specification The successful applicant must:
  • Have experience and a positive understanding of children with disabilities
  • Have a genuine interest in working with young people with complex needs
  • Be able to respond patiently, positively, and sensitively to any changes in behaviour
  • Have a high degree of initiative
  • Be punctual and reliable as the young person cannot be left unsupervised
  • Be flexible
  • Have a happy, positive and caring nature
  • Respect confidentiality
Car drivers are preferred but not essential and must be insured for business use. Mileage will be paid in agreement with the employer. The successful candidate will require an Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure (DBS), cost to be met by employer.
