The Director's Assistant will have the opportunity to learn about how a public (not-for-profit) gallery operates gaining an insight into governance, funding, staff roles and strategy.

The Director's Assistant will play an important role providing invaluable support on many aspects of the day to day running of the Gallery as well as certain special projects.

Working at the heart of the organisation will enable the candidate to establish a good understanding and insight into the different job roles within a public gallery gaining valuable experience for future career in the Arts.

Situated in the heart of Central London, at the gateway to Soho, The Photographers' Gallery (TPG) is the UK's foremost centre for the presentation and exploration of photography in all its forms and home to an international community of photographers.

Open 6 days a week, TPG presents a diverse and critically acclaimed programme of exhibitions, events, talks, workshops and courses, as well as offering a unique, specialist bookshop, a dedicated space for the discovery and sale of photographic prints and a tranquil cafe.

Administrative and organisational abilities with a close attention to detail;

Confident communicator with solid writing skills;

Tact, confidence and the maturity to work with and liaise with a wide range of people, on the telephone and in person;

Highly computer literate; fluent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite; ability to use own initiative; ability to work as part of a team as well as independently;

Problem-solving skills with an eye for detail; calm approach under pressure; ability to work within a fast-moving environment and to deliver within restricted time, space and financial resources;

An interest in pursuing a career in the Arts and working in the charitable sector; a genuine interest in photography and a commitment to the visual arts; an interest in pursuing a career in the Arts and working in the charitable sector

Whilst the above person specifications offers a useful guide to the experience level expected, we encourage applications from anyone who feels they could bring alternative, equally beneficial skills, experience and perspective to the role.

25hrs per week. Flexible days - Fixed hours: 10:00 - 18:00

National Minimum Wage

We will provide advice and training for the position holder that will help them adapt to various working environments by building key workplace skills such as communication, time and meeting management and report writing.

We will have weekly reviews to provide support and answer questions you may have. We will provide training for the role including using the Gallery's CRM, website and any other relevant training for the role. Towards the end of the placement we will offer application assistance and mock interviews to help plan for your next position.

Throughout the six-month period we will assess how the placements are developing their skills and if they feel they are learning from their time at the Gallery.

These monthly sessions their designated staff member will discuss how they performed providing feedback and then plan the key objectives for the next month setting some objectives for key objectives and learning outcomes.

Our aim will be to give each candidate a specific piece of work that they can take some ownership of and deliver this with the support of appropriate staff.

We will help each candidate to gain the relevant experience and assist in constructing their CV following their time at the Gallery.

We will assist with writing job applications and tutor in interview techniques and some guidance in who to find work in their chosen area within the arts sector.

We have a strong history of work placements, part-time and casual staff all securing good roles within other arts organisations following gaining work experience here at The Photographers Gallery.
