JOB SUMMARY
This job will job will involve supporting our gardener in the variety of jobs needed to keep our Community Garden well maintained and accessible to visitors.

The main responsibilities will involve assisting our gardener with routine activities such as weeding, composting and trimming of shrubs and trees.
Dependent on the season the applicate will be helping to sow, maintain and harvest produce.
Caring for a small flock of chickens, collecting eggs, letting in and out of coop and cleaning environment.
Helping to look after our small wildlife pond and learning about aquatic pond life.
Helping with planting and the care of growing plants learning about best practices involved with the process.
The community garden is open to the public and the role will include to engaging visitors to the garden, showing them around and explaining our work to them.
Assisting to build small planters and decorative garden items for sale and working with gardener to create new ideas and
educating the public and especially children to produce signs and notices to promote the garden and help visitors to understand what they are looking at .
Working with volunteers and ensuring they have tasks allocated that they can complete.
Welcome-Change is a non for profit organisation working in East Birmingham. It aims to offer support, activities and opportunities to the whole of society through 4 different sites. The community garden B33 OEW offers a place of tranquillity and safety for the community to visit and enjoy. We want to develop it further to enable year round activities for the community and vulnerable.

SKILLS NEEDED
You will be required to have an interest in gardening/horticulture.
Be reliable and flexible and adaptable in terms of duties.
Ability to work as part of a team as well as individually.
Able to work sensitively with people from a range backgrounds.

WORKING HOURS
Fixed days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - Fixed hours: 11:00 - 16:00

HOURLY RATE
National minimum wage

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
Support will be delivered daily by the onsite gardener who will work with applicants to build up their skill and knowledge levels. There is facility for the applicant to do online research and training. We would welcome and support the research and delivery of an individual project an applicant may want to pursue.
