The National Gallery

This placement has been created to provide an insight into the work of the Learning and National Programmes department and to provide the intern with certain skillset to take with them post placement to build a career. The Gallery will offer appropriate guidance and training where applicable for the individual, ensuring that they are suitably prepared to carry out both the duties of the post and to assist them with seeking future employment once their placement ends.

The postholder will contribute to the delivery of the objectives and audience targets outlined in the Learning Strategy by supporting sessions and providing admin support as required. They will provide support to those who teach the onsite, online and outreach programme of talks, tours, workshops and participatory activities for schools, families and adults, and help to gather evidence of our impact.

• Prepare materials and spaces for learning sessions and events.
• Support Gallery Educators as they lead School sessions.
• Support Gallery Educators as they lead Family sessions during school holidays.
• Use an agreed framework to reflect on sessions led by Gallery Educators, providing observations to help improve delivery. Work with Gallery Educators to find a creative way to gather evidence that schools’ sessions have an impact on children’s vocabulary and language skills.
• Make a short presentation of the findings made above to the Learning and National Programmes team.
• Develop and co-lead a workshop for families in May half term.
• Attend Gallery Educator Meetings and provide support, including note taking. Support the Head of Learning and National Programmes with some administrative work.

No skills are required as full training will be provided.

25 hours per week. Tuesdays 9.30-5pm; Wednesdays 9.30-5pm. Thursdays 9.30-2.30. Fridays 1pm to 6pm: They may once a month work from 4pm to 9pm instead on these dates.

The Kickstarter will have access to over 600 courses and will be able to select their own learning to help them with their job placement and long-term career goals.
