JOB SUMMARY
Key responsibilities:

• Performing setup and clean up tasks on site

• Digging pits, trenches and foundations

• Handling and transporting of materials/goods

• Follow instructions from supervisors to perform manual labour tasks

• Directing traffic when necessary to ensure the safety of everyone, display warning signs (if needed)

• Providing general maintenance of construction equipment

• Supporting other trades on site

• Report issues with equipment

All team members are encouraged not to ignore work at the boundaries of their specific role, but to take ownership of any issue with which they become involved, ensuring that all matters are brought to a satisfactory conclusion. This includes identifying any risks involved in the day-to-day responsibilities of the role and taking action to mitigate those risks. You must always comply with the Health and Safety policy and procedure and must draw to their site manager’s attention any unsafe working practice/conditions.

There will be a lot of Joinery and woodwork carried out on site and there may be an option in the future of starting a Joinery apprenticeship should the right candidate wish.

Your place of work may change on a daily basis, from site to workshop but this will be communicated to you with as much notice as possible. You will be required to report to the Site Manager and Director’s but also to liaise with the customer and other team members in a polite and professional manner. You may be given various tools to use (after a thorough induction), and you will be required to handle them with due care and attention. You will be provided with the appropriate PPE required for your role.

SKILLS NEEDED
A driving license maybe beneficial but we could also try and meet the candidate in a central location via bus/train routes to drive them to site.

Good communication and listening is a must, site is busy and we need to know you are safe so listening to us and following instructions is of utmost importance.

A willingness to learn and be part of a team.

WORKING HOURS
Monday to Friday 8-1pm or could be arranged 9-2pm to make public transport easier

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
1. Public transport isn’t always the easiest so we are flexible with a start time of between 8am-9am so we hope this will improve attendance and help the young person manage their timekeeping.
2. When they are working with us they will soon notice how the team works together and needs to communicate thoroughly and clearly to get the job done but also to support each other. There will be various other trades on site and we all come together with our separate skills to make a great team. We really hope this comes across and encourages the young person to want to be part of this for the future.
3. There will be health & safety training, lifting, manual handling, joinery/woodwork, but also electricians, plumbers, roofers and various other trades so lots for the young person to see and hopefully give them an idea of a future career.
4. Hopefully we will give the person the confidence and basic skills to have a career in construction and we hope to want to make a good pathway in life. Our office manager is also on hand to help with a CV or applying for jobs and also how to talk to future employers/customers as these are also vital skills to have.
