This position is for 25 hours per week.

This position of a design assistant will be a vital part of our small fast-paced fashion studio. You will learn the complete inner workings of a menswear brand, working from show sample through to product development through to store delivery. You will provide support to the creative director for a smooth day to day running of the collection, helping to oversee all aspects of the product lifecycle from initial creative concept through to collection presentation.

The skills and key responsibilities will be:

• gaining an insight into the workings of a small brand
• how to communicate with factory/manufacturers’ requirements
• access to a broad list of material suppliers/manufacturers that could help in your future projects
• how a wholesale fashion business model works
• grading and any aspects of pattern cutting
• the workings of design and the process of delivering from studio to stores
• the workings of a London Fashion Week catwalk show
• casting process/styling and fittings along with hair and make-up tests
• improvement in Adobe programs.

Robyn Lynch is a contemporary fashion menswear brand based in East London, Founded in 2018. Part of the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN class of 2021/22, Lynch has established herself as one of London’s emerging design talents. From her debut collection as part of Lulu Kennedy’s Fashion East program, Lynch uses her Irish upbringing and culture as the base of the brand’s ethos and inspiration, paying tribute to her roots with the youthful style and silhouette of traditional Irish cable knits. Her most recent collection, featuring outdoor brand, Columbia's deadstock, presents a mash-up of Columbia’s traditional outdoor codes puzzled into Lynch’s brand signatures.

• We are looking for a solid all-rounder with an eye for detail and strong coordination skills.
• Your skillset will allow you to complete design-related tasks with a very hands-on approach.
• You will be a confident lateral thinker and effective communicator who is a proactive problem solver.
• Both punctual and well organised you will be able to manage workflow in line with the project critical paths.

Skills required for this position would include:
• Meticulous attention to detail throughout each stage of the product development.
• To be highly organised and efficient, excellent planning and time management skills.
• To have a problem-solving attitude and be able to multitask effectively.

Knowledge of the following would be great however not limited to
• Pattern cutting and grading,
• Garment construction,
• Knowledge of Adobe suite.

Experience of working in a fashion brand prior or relevant experience would be desirable but not essential.

Working pattern would be 3 full days 10am to 5pm and one-half day of 10am to 2pm. Inclusive of 1 hour lunch on full days and 30-minute lunch break on the half day.

National Minimum Wage

Design assistant - basic sewing skills, pattern cutting, grading, fabric sourcing, adobe creative suite.

I will provide all the training in house. Being a small studio, I will manage mentoring every day, we can also set up monthly reviews to recap on the training and learning of the candidate. This is when the participant can also provide feedback.

Participants will be provided with the constant support of mentoring and guidance every day in the studio. Working next to the creative director, tailored support will be available at all times. They will also have the opportunity to learn more and further develop their skills in this role. For example, if the candidate has basic information of grading, a more specific pattern grading will be taught and demonstrated.

Support for the participant with basic skills, such as attendance, time management, and teamwork. Support to look for long-term work, including career advice and setting goals. Support with CV and portfolio/interview preparation.
