JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for an enthusiastic young person to join our team and learn an exciting, rewarding and satisfying trade, no previous skills are necessary, as full trading will be provided from the ground up.

To learn, and learn the Meridian way you will be taught the sewing process starting with prepping of fabrics, starting with the basic sewing requirements and following on the stages to hopefully developing you in to a competent upholstery sewing machinist and filling cushions, we will also teach you why we do it the way we do it and help you develop as a person to fully understand why we operate the way we do, in constant pursuit of improvement.

SKILLS NEEDED
We are looking for people with the willingness to learn and open to learning new skills in the upholstery trade. However, if you do have Sewing skills these would be advantageous.

WORKING HOURS
25 hours over the working period 8-5pm Monday to Friday

HOURLY RATE
National Minimum Wage

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
Provided by Itec – skills training
Intermediary Provider

L1 Award Occupational Studies – delivered prior to the participant starting with you. We will provide practical knowledge & skills covering topics such as; C.V writing, interview skills, employer expectations, communication skills, teamwork, problem solving.

L2 Prevention & Control of Infection – delivered approximately halfway through the placement. This qualification will provide participants with an understanding of the causes of infection, control measures to prevent spread, hygiene and workplace practices.
Optionally, participants will be provided with a suite of short 30-minute self-study courses on topics such as; Mental Health Awareness, Solving Problems & Decision Making, Principles of Internet Safety, Planning & Allocating Work, Money Management, Manual Handling Safety at Work, Health & Safety in the Workplace, Food Safety Awareness, DSE Risk Assessments, COSHH Risk Assessment. We suggest that as further training needs are identified by either you, or our Placement Officer, participants are directed as appropriate.
In the factory they will learn work place behaviours in a live workplace environment
