The Role:

We have long term placement opportunities available Band 5 or 6 Pharmacy Technician available at Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust specifically providing the following:

  • The post holder will participate in the training, supervision and assessment of new staff, Pre-registration trainee Pharmacy Technicians and Band 4/5 Pharmacy Technicians undergoing medicines optimisation training.
  • The post holder will have a nationally recognised ACPT qualification and a nationally recognised Medicines Management skills qualification at/or equivalent to the South West Medicines Information and Training Intermediate Level or higher qualification(s).

To apply for this post, you will:

  • To work with minimal supervision to provide an admission, supply, and discharge service to nominated wards. Liaising directly with pharmacists, doctors, and nursing staff over clinical issues as appropriate.
  • On admission, taking detailed and accurate medication histories (level one) and checking that the medicines prescribed for each patient correspond with the information gathered (level two).
  • Assessing medicines brought in by the patient (PODs)
  • Ensuring prescribing is within the Trust formulary and provide guidance on non-formulary choices
  • Ordering or arranging a supply of all medication that the patient has not brought into hospital.
  • Maintaining on-going medication supply requirements including the monitoring of electronic nurse supply requests where ePMA has been implemented.
  • Advising ward staff, patients and carers of any supply problems and liaising with appropriate members of the pharmacy team to obtain a resolution.
  • To undertake accurate labelling and dispensing requirements within the dispensary at Prospect Park Hospital.
  • To have a working knowledge of electronic systems within the dispensary including the pharmacy labelling system, pharmacy robot, prescription tracking and electronic notes.
  • To understand the requirements of the clozapine clinics and the prescribing of clozapine in order to label, dispense and accuracy check effectively.
  • To undertake allocated final accuracy checking slots within the dispensary.
  • To provide information and advice to patients, relatives, carers and staff regarding prescribed medicines and further supplies
