Gwent Energy CIC

• Assisting with the installation of solar PV panels and electric vehicle charging points.
• This will entail working on site at various customer premises in SE Wales.
• Working at heights on roofs and use of ladders and scaffold platforms.
• Manual handling and use of tools.
• Customer contact.
• Setting up proprietary operating software. (E.g., connecting devices to local networks)

The work will be 80% site based at customers premises, appropriate clothing to be worn.
20% will be home based training courses so internet access is required. A laptop can be provided if needed.

• Minimum of 4 GSCEs at grade C or above, including Maths, English. (And IT desirable).
• Physically fit and able to climb ladders.
• Comfortable working at heights.
• Driving license desirable but not essential.

Risk awareness training will be given as part of the job training. There will be home based training courses, so internet access is required. A laptop can be provided if needed.

8.30am to 4.30pm, with a half hour break during the day as appropriate for the project. Days to be agreed.

National Minimum Wage. To be reviewed after 3 months.

We will help the young person manage their timekeeping and attendance.
The applicant will be required to keep a timesheet detailing hours and tasks undertaken.
Encouraged to report where hours are likely to miss the weekly target and suggest remedies.

We will help to develop the young person’s teamwork and communication skills.
Close working with a colleague will encourage the development of teamwork skills
On completion of a job, they will help to write the commissioning records and customer handover packs
Involvement in general team meetings and discussions.

We will provide the following training to the young person as part of the role -
Basic health and safety training – working at heights, electrical safety, manual handling
Basic electrical course 1 week certificated later in the work placement (Provided by South Wales Electrical Training)
Solar designs and reports, if candidate shows aptitude. (Provided by Midsummer Solar)
Low carbon training 3 days certificated to understand the urgency to achieve zero carbon (provided by Monmouthshire County Council)
First aid training. (Provided by St Johns Ambulance)

We will help the young person improve their job prospects.
By explaining the relevance of their job to key social and environmental issues/challenges and the opportunities arising from them.
Improve self-confidence by being part of a team that delivers tangible and successful installation projects

We will provide help with C.V writing and Interview skills if required.
