Waste operative - this role has been developed to raise awareness of the various functions of managing waste in a construction environment. This role will be based at our depot 23 LenzieMill Road, Lenziemill Industrial Estate, Cumbernauld G67 2RL.
To work as part of a local team within our waste recycling facility with primary focus on supporting our obligations of disposing/recycling trade waste responsibly and safely.
1. Segregating waste, identifying and storage of recyclables to be placed in the designated bays.

2. Keeping the refuse and recycling compound area tidy, clean and safe.

3. Delivering consistent level of high service, whilst ensuring all company standards and contract requirements are met.

4. Complying with the company corporate environmental policy, statutory regulations on Safe Systems of Work, hygiene, health & safety, cleanliness, fire & COSHH.

5. Ensure that the customer experience is central to all activities by adopting a professional manner when communicating with service users, clients, and both internal/external stakeholders This includes but is not limited to appearance, company ID, condition of vehicles and maintaining a high standard of Health & Safety requirements. It may be necessary where requested to obtain customer feedback on completion of works.

6. Keep all supplied company assets in a good condition in line with the company policies and report to your Supervisor/Manager where damages occur.

7. Utilise existing stock or collect materials as and when required to meet works order requirements, in accordance with standard operating procedures.

8. Attend informal and formal meetings and training sessions as required.

9. Participate in call out cover if and when required to ensure contract compliance & service user satisfaction for emergency repairs

• Is able to complete and maintain all paperwork & electronic data records relevant to work carried out.
• Can input data accurately and comprehensively
• Has good IT skills and has a working knowledge of both Microsoft word and excel
• Can maintain high standards of attendance, punctuality and personal appearance in the workplace
• Is willing to show that they have a “can do attitude”
• Has the ability to communicate with others, happy to share information and advice when working.
• Understanding about the principles of good customer service.
• Good written and verbal communications,
• Able to understand and follow instructions.

8.00 am - 5.00 3 days a week There will be a requirement to be flexible

Mears has developed an employability programme which will be delivered in conjunction with the work experience. Successful candidates will be issued with a workbook so that they can capture the skills and knowledge that they are gaining throughout the programme.
Candidates will attend 6 virtual workshops where they will have the opportunity to meet with other Kickstart candidates from across the UK. These programmes will cover CV writing, preparing for an interview, Interview skills, how to search for jobs, how to transfer the skills gained during the work experience into other job roles. Candidates will also be encouraged to complete the Mears elearning courses and if appropriate level 2 qualification in mental health, safeguarding and/or level 1 carbon awareness. All candidates will be guaranteed an interview for the Mears Apprenticeship programmes and any appropriate full time job roles. Mears will also engage with its supply chain to help with developing interview skills and job applications. Candidates will also have allocated a work based mentor who will be providing ongoing advice, guidance and support.
