JOB SUMMARY
The Junior Care Assistant will support delivery of high quality care for older people in Age UK Leicestershire & Rutland’s busy day care centres.
Duties as Junior Care Assistant include (but are not limited) the following:
Supporting and delivering stimulating and structured activities
Assisting service users with personal care including toileting
Escort duties including excursions beyond the day care centre
Provision of meals and refreshments in line service users personal preferences and taking into account, religious, cultural and medical needs.

SKILLS NEEDED
Applicants should have a caring and compassionate approach to providing care and support and empathy for people in need of care and support. They will be reliable, have excellent time keeping, be willing to learn and seek guidance where needed.
They should have a general awareness of the issues facing older people and those who require care and support, an understanding of the importance of confidentiality, the ability to listen and to communicate effectively with
people at all levels. They will maintain professional working relationships and be able to provide care and support in a way that
promotes the independence, dignity, choices and privacy of service users. They should be able to work as part of team and be able use their own initiative. They must be able to adhere to policies, procedures and instructions, have commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and to upholding the values of equality and diversity and be willing to undertake training and meet statutory training requirements

WORKING HOURS
9.00am to 3.00pm, Monday to Friday

HOURLY RATE
National Minimum Wage

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
The individuals will be supported by and work closely with our Day Care Centre managers. They will be guided and supported ensuring the relevant skills and experiences are gained.
We will provide positive feedback, and negative feedback in a professional and constructive manner, listen to the individual, and provide coaching and mentoring.
Training courses will be provided, and a full induction programme implemented. The individual will gain skills and experience within a Day Care environment, which will be transferable to many health and care related job prospects.
Many employability skills would be developed through undertaking the placement role and ongoing training including:
Timekeeping and attendance
Timely and accurate completion of tasks
Being flexible and adaptable
Good communication skills
Being organised and dependable
Working well with other people
Willingness to learn and reflective practice
Help with writing CVs and covering letters to help candidates stand out and evidence their fit with the vacancy
Offering volunteer opportunities with us and guiding them toward opportunities with other charities to increase their breadth and range of skills.
Help to identify the vacancies to which they are best suited and will have the greatest chance of success and where to look for employment opportunities (e.g. creating a LinkedIn profile and searching for vacancies).
