This is an exciting opportunity to learn new skills and gain valuable experience whilst working in a school environment.
The EYFS Assistant will support the delivery of physical and emotional care for children in an Early Years setting. They will collaborate with EYFS staff to help them create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment, in which children can develop social skills and thrive. They will help supervise the children, plan activities for them, and look after them.
St Paul’s Catholic Primary School is a school based in Prenton which aims to create a caring, nurturing environment where children can develop spiritually, personally and academically. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful candidates, this will be covered by the employer.
You will possess good communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with children.
You will be committed to promoting the physical and emotional wellbeing of children and will have an awareness of Health and Safety policies and procedures.
You will have a passion for working in the Early Years sector.
The ideal applicants will also have first aid training and professional experience in the early year’s sector or a related area (this is desirable not essential).
ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
You will receive an ‘Employability Programme’ designed to support you in securing future employment by developing specific skills. Our aim is that all participants will, after six months, feel equipped, empowered and confident to seek employment in the job market.
The Programme will contain the following elements:
• Induction Training half day – school specific information which will include the sharing of relevant policies and procedures and the staff handbook. Role expectations, safeguarding, health and safety
• Monthly 1:1 support and mentoring including the creation of an individual Personal Development Plan. You will be appointed a mentor from the Senior Management team and will meet with them on a weekly basis to discuss your role. Monthly targets will be set and progress discussed at the meetings. Sessions will be catered individually to the participant.
• Half termly training days with participants from schools across the cluster focusing on the following topics:
o Day 1 - Careers advice, information and guidance. Job hunting skills and channels. Guidance on the use of basic IT packages.
o Day 2. - Employability qualification including communication skills, mind-set and motivation. General day to day work behaviours such as attendance, timekeeping, teamwork, etiquette and attitude etc.
o Day 3 - Job search and preparation, CV/Resume writing, completion of an application form, interview preparation & practice.
o Training Day 4 - Job skills workshops - subjects include workplace etiquette, careers advice, well-being and health and safety.
o *If participants are specifically seeking employment in the Education sector – a further training session will be offered relating to ‘Working in Education’.
• End of Placement Reflection Meeting – with Mentor to reflect on placement and discuss lessons learnt and opportunities for the future.
