Weston Super Mare Town Council

This is a development role reporting to the Grounds Supervisor and forming part of a team of operational staff undertaking a range of services. These include:

Conservation works and grounds maintenance matters at Council sites, green spaces and assets.

The duties of the post are divided into four major areas, the balance of which may vary.

Tasks include:

Assisting with a providing general maintenance, conservation and compliance works across sites and green spaces including Milton Road Cemetery, parks and play areas, attending to tree works and assisting with civic and community events and Weston in Bloom initiatives.

Working as part of a team within the operational grounds department, with external stakeholders and contractors which includes waste removal and disposal, re-cycling, play inspections and waterpark maintenance and testing.

Other responsibilities include:- developing understanding of H & S at work, providing information and assistance to members of the public, attending designated training and development and contributing to team meetings.

Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to interact with the general public, colleagues and persons associated with our service delivery.
Must be able to follow direction, conduct yourself in a reliable and trustworthy manner, work as part of a team and with minimum supervision.
Possess a positive, ‘can-do’ and enthusiastic attitude.
Have a keen approach to both learning on the job and completing Kickstart Plus.
Have an interest in conservation and community services delivery.
Willingness to develop skills and knowledge including H & S at work, IT and customer service delivery.

Variable to include weekends on a shift basis

£9.50 per hour

The Kickstarter will work closely with their line manager and will also be supported by a workplace mentor throughout the programme.

Peer support will constantly available with opportunity to learn from the wider team.

Kickstarters will meet others on placements to form a support network

Constant dialogue will be encouraged as well as any necessary operational, system and mandatory online training to include H & S, Safeguarding, Data Management and Equality and Diversity.

Monthly performance reviews will take place to support personal development and growth.

There will be an expectation to access employability support and complete Kickstart Plus via Weston College.

NB There is potential, depending on Council expansion plans for this post to progress to permanent position.
