JOB SUMMARY
You will be working in a school in the role of Play Worker – Early Years to help with the general supervision and management of pupils in Nursery and Reception classes.

The ideal applicant will be caring, patient and understanding. The Play Worker – Early Years must be attentive to the unique needs of each pupil and be able to identify proper solutions when pupils encounter issues, using a range of techniques and approaches that you will be supported in developing throughout this opportunity. You should have strong interpersonal skills, as you’ll be collaborating with other teachers and TAs, working with pupils and talking to families.

Your main role will be to assist with play-based classroom instruction and provide support and guidance to all pupils within the class. This will include supporting pupils with EAL (English as an Additional Language), SEND (Special Educational Needs), as well as pupils from across the ability range – relative to their age.
Supporting the teaching team in maintaining a supportive, safe and clean classroom environment, helping to organise resources, maintain the overall cleanliness of the learning space throughout the day, and ensuring that materials and apparatus are ready to use in subsequent sessions.
Outside of class time, you will be expected to support in the supervision of pupils during non-classroom time and help to arrange and oversee recreational activities (e.g. during break and lunch ‘play’ times, and potentially before and after school)

SKILLS NEEDED
• It is essential you have GCSE in English and Maths (or Level 2 equivalent).
• A positive, empathetic and caring attitude

• Good verbal and written communication skills; you will be expected to support pupils with reading, writing, mathematics and other subjects within their classes.

• Great collaboration and teamwork skills

• Basic computer skills; It is necessary for you to have functional experience of using IT, in order to carry out the role effectively. System-specific training will be provided as appropriate within your role.

• Given the nature of this role, there is no required prior experience. However, every applicant will be expected to complete a full DBS check to ensure you are eligible to work with young people in this role.

WORKING HOURS
9am-2:30pm, Monday-Friday

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
TT Education (Kickstart Gateway Provider) and the employer (School) will provide leading employability support and training throughout the 6-month placement, enabling the participant to capitalise on their time in the role and giving them the skills and confidence to move into long term, sustainable employment. The school (employer) will provide a full induction and standard job-related training, to ensure the participant has a rounded and supported work experience. The school will also provide a line manager who will act as a mentor throughout the placement.

TT Education as the gateway provider will monitor the support provided in school (via half-termly phone conversation with line manager/ mentor). In addition to the training put in place by the employer, TT Education will provide a programme of training on employability skills. Participants will receive access to our Online Learning Platform, where they will receive access to (at least) two new on demand employability courses every month including the following titles:

• Public speaking and presenting
• Having Challenging Conversations
• Leading in your role
• CV Writing
• How to stand out when applying for a new role

As a gateway, TT Education will also provide additional school specific training and support, monthly careers and employability workshops and give all participants access to our school CPD Tracker software allowing participants to track their progress and development during their work experience.
