We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team.

Cardiology at the Freeman Hospital is spread across Ward 24 and coronary care, and our day-case unit, Ward 27. The unit takes direct emergency admissions with suspected myocardial infarction for primary angioplasty, as well as a wide and varied cross-section of tertiary care cardiology from our referral-centres across the region, and in some cases beyond.

The post holder will develop their experience in history-taking and examination in chest pain, breathlessness, syncope & pre-syncope and heart failure. The angioplasty service (which is the UK’s second largest practice) allows exposure to acute myocardial infarction patients, which are almost exclusively managed at this site now within the region. Day-to-day ward work will give insight into the management of chest pain, heart failure & arrhythmology. There is a daily consultant-led ward round on CCU and Ward 24 (acute cardiology in-patients). You may also have exposure to outpatient clinics and lab-based procedures, such as advanced cardiac imaging, angiography and angioplasty, as well as pacing and electrophysiology (catheter ablation). All our doctors contribute to the cardioversion service.

Post holder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to develop and deliver management plans for each patient with the support of the senior doctors on the ward. You will also attend and participate in the structured teaching programmes provided in the department. You will be responsible for such other specific clinical duties as allocated by consultants including performing other duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

This medical post is not an accredited training post but content is organised to mirror Internal Medical Training. Successful applicants will join the IMT weekly teaching program. Educational supervision will be provided in the same way as individuals undertaking Internal Medical Training. The post is for a period of 12 months
