The Outpatients department is the ‘front door to our trust’ and is committed to providing a first class service & ensuring patient experience, quality and patient safety outcomes are met.

Due to a current staff vacancy in T&O Outpatients we require a permanent level 1 Registered nurse to join our existing nursing team working 34.5 hours a week within the Trauma & Orthopaedic OPD.

What will I be doing in my new role?

The post holder/s will ensure the departments are able to meet the increased demand & activity for daily scheduled and additional clinics in all outpatient areas in which, some have now become scheduled on a weekly basis, which impacts greatly on our increasingly stretched nursing establishment. This in turn will improve efficiency in the service we provide.

The post holder/s will provide essential clinical support for the band 7/6 Sister/Charge nurse and may involve supporting other OPD areas situated in 4 separate sites of outpatients and is essential for us to maintain a high quality and safe service in all areas.

This post will assist in ensuring we meet our 2 week rule targets and to ensure the department does not breach on any of the 18 week pathways.

Safe and adequate nursing cover will ensure the experience of our patients are positives ones therefore maintaining a good reputation for our trust.

What about the department I will join?

This post/s will be based in Trauma & Orthopaedic Outpatients department but may include the rotation to 4 other OPD areas including Main OPD, ENT, cardiology and chest clinics if required.

You will be joining a team of both qualified nurses and clinical support workers who work in all 4 areas which specialise in all medical and surgical conditions.

You will be expected to have an excellent knowledge of outpatient clinics and general knowledge of medical and surgical conditions.

The post holder will be expected to utilise all the specialist equipment ensuring all quality and safety checks are completed for invasive procedures, HSSD processes and awareness of reporting processes for the malfunction of any equipment.

You will be responsible for the day to day coordination and management of Outpatient clinics utilising your organisational skills in ensuring the staffing skill mix is safe in all areas in the absence of the band 6 and daily be responsible and proficient in managing daily clinics ensuring patients receive a gold standard service.

You will be expected to have to be proficient wound dressings i.e. compression & VAC dressings (or working towards competency), ECG recording, minor operations procedures and have a wide knowledge of surgical and medical conditions.

• Relevant Experience at Band 5 in an Outpatient setting or experience of medical/surgical conditions & procedures in a clinical setting.
• Possess an excellent knowledge of medical/surgical treatments & interventions if required.
• Ability to manage a team of nurses in the absence of the band 7/6.
