This is an exciting opportunity to learn new skills and gain valuable experience whilst working in a school environment. Ovingham Middle School is a three form entry middle school which is very much part of the local community set in spacious grounds by the River Tyne. In existence since 1975, we are now proud to be part of the Tyne Community Learning Trust and work very closely with all our partner schools.

The Subject Assistant will provide support in English to teaching staff and pupils in the school. They will facilitate pupils’ learning experience in their subject areas and will collaborate with teachers and teaching assistants in order to ensure the best possible learning outcomes. They will collaborate with teaching staff on the delivery of English e.g. providing support in the classroom and producing supplementary learning materials. They will enhance pupils’ learning experience in a specific subject and will deal with their queries and requests. They will assist teachers and teaching assistants with general classroom duties e.g. maintaining a clean and tidy classroom environment. They will also provide administrative support as needed.

Ovingham Middle School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful candidates. Candidates are encouraged to read Ovingham Middle School Safeguarding Policy before applying. After your initial application has been assessed, if you are successful in this stage you will be provided with guidance materials to support you completing an application form to move to the interview stage. Applicants will have excellent written and oral communication skills, good knowledge of Microsoft Office and a flexible and collaborative approach to work.
