Ovingham Middle School

This is an exciting opportunity to learn new skills and gain valuable experience whilst working in a school environment. Ovingham Middle School is a three form entry middle school which is very much part of the local community set in spacious grounds by the River Tyne. In existence since 1975, we are now proud to be part of the Tyne Community Learning Trust and work very closely with all our partner schools.

The food technician will help to ensure that all food technology lessons in the school, run smoothly and efficiently. The role will provide support and assistance to the classroom teacher in preparing for the lessons, looking after the pupils and ensuring all materials are looked after. The main duties of the role will include preparing and clearing away materials and equipment, assisting teaching staff with demonstrations and contributing to the planning and organisation of lessons. The Food Technician will adhere to the maintenance of health and safety standards, act as a role model by promoting healthy eating and will record achievement and progress of pupils. The food technician will maintain records of apparatus and materials including records of breakages and maintain a clean work environment.

Applicants will have excellent communication skills and good organisational skills with the ability to plan work effectively. They will be able to use kitchen and relevant cleaning equipment, be able to work well in a team and independently and work calm under pressure. Candidates will enjoy working with young people and may have experience of working with children in a school environment. Is it desirable but not essential that applicants will have first aid training and they will have prior experience of preparing food.

The third module, designed using a credit system, will enable you to select the package of training that best suits your personal needs, interests and ambitions. You will be able to choose from a wide range of resources and means of learning, such as, for example, seminars on public speaking, professional writing, critical thinking or negotiation, and innovative professional tools, such as Diversity Icebreaker and Working Genius.
