JOB SUMMARY
Portsmouth City Council is committed to delivering excellent museums and visitor services which celebrate the heritage of the city. The Portsmouth Museums and Visitor Services is responsible for six museums and heritage sites across the city, one of which is Southsea Castle.

We are looking for a retail assistant to work with our Merchandising Officer to assist with our range of museum shops. The post will be mostly based at Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery.
Job Role:
You will help the merchandising officer with a range of retail activities/tasks to ensure our museum shops are relevant, enticing and profitable. Although based at Portsmouth Museum and Art gallery, you will also visit all shop sites.

This is a great opportunity to add experience to your CV and learn new skills.

Key Responsibilities
• Help check in and price up retail deliveries
• Provide engaging retail displays in shop areas
• Have creative input to new stock
• Help with regular stocktaking

SKILLS NEEDED
An open and approachable manner, no formal qualifications required
A positive attitude to work and desire to co-operate with staff and volunteers
A willingness to ask for help and take initiative to solve problems
Flexible approach to work and to not be afraid to make mistakes
Keen to learn and willingness to share your learning with others

WORKING HOURS
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday 10.15am to 4.30pm

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
The Museum Service will allocate the successful candidate a mentor for monitoring of attendance, timekeeping, communication, teamwork and travel to work alongside any operational challenges

All kickstart placements will have a full appropriate induction for their place of work and this will be recorded individually

All Kickstart to have regular reviews with mentor and records kept for kickstart to have for future records. Paperwork templates to be provided to all partners to support recording

National Careers Service or careers meeting within 2 weeks, or prior to commencement. Revisit before end of placement with additional job search support in place based on individual need to support kickstart individual and aspirations.


New CV to be created with each kickstart with updated experience prior to end of placement
Signposting for employer and kickstart to appropriate training opportunities including:
Employability
Mental Health award
Interview techniques
Specialist sector training events to be delivered by partner skills providers including:
Food Hygiene
Digital Marketing
Linked in
PCC placements will have access to all online learning and development including
GDPR
H&S
Finance
Microsoft Teams training

All employers and departments to receive Apprenticeship progression information working with Solent Apprenticeship HUB. All Kickstart individuals to receive appropriate progression information, including the promotion of apprenticeships and other career routes (including armed forces and other training opportunities) prior to end of placement
