JOB SUMMARY
The Art and Technology Assistant will support the delivery of Art and Design Technology classes in a school. They will assist the teaching staff in preparing educational materials and will enhance pupils’ learning experience.

They will prepare resources for Art and Design Technology classes and will assist teachers in planning and delivering lessons. They will lead small group sessions and support children with their learning. They will ensure a high level of cleanliness in the classroom and will maintain the relevant equipment in a tidy condition. They will also provide administrative support as needed.

An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful candidates; this will be covered by the employer.

SKILLS NEEDED
Applicants will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, good organisational skills and passion for art and design technology. They will have a good knowledge of Microsoft Office. They will be committed to ensuring the best possible learning outcomes for pupils. The ideal applicants will also have an aptitude for using design software (this is desirable but not essential).

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
As a Teaching School, Our Lady and St Edward’s Catholic Primary School already has experience and capacity in providing high-quality employability training, including support with CV, application form and interview preparation.

As part of Birkenhead North Cluster, the school will also work collaboratively with other institutions in order to offer a wide range of activities, opportunities and training for all the young people employed through the Kickstart Scheme.

Each Kickstart employee will have a mentor, who will support them during their employment. Training will be undertaken at the beginning of the placement and then weekly, with specific and targeted support depending on the Kickstart employee’s role within the school.

Mentors will provide feedback regularly and will hold monthly check-in meetings with Kickstart employees. Mentors and young people will produce together a final report at the end of the six-month placement.
