The Abbeyfield Society
Maintaining and improving the social and mental health of our residents is as important as their physical health. And you have a vital role in achieving this.
We will teach you to develop and deliver a varied and stimulating range of social activities which are suitable for our residents. You will need to involve each resident, and get to know them personally, so that you can understand their preferences, and tailor each activity to their current physical and mental needs and abilities.
You will develop positive and supportive relationships with our residents. You can use their life stories, experiences and interests to collate a selection of personally meaningful activities which will most engage that person, maintaining their choice to be as involved, or not involved, as they wish.
Responsible for each activity running as smoothly as possible, you plan and obtain all supplies and deal swiftly with any concerns raised. You will also need to maintain an up to date record of relevant information including resident involvement and past and planned activities.
You must be well organised, and able to work using your own initiative. You also need to be creative, with a fresh approach to planning activities. Equally, you will be a caring person, who is empathetic and understands the needs of older people, including those with dementia.
Able to communicate and interact well with a wide range of people in varied situations, you will be patient, with the ability to remain calm and tactful in sensitive situations.
Able to read, write and work with numbers and computers to a good standard, you will also be a strong and supportive team player.
Finally, we would expect you to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or in the process of becoming fully vaccinated (other than in exceptional circumstances), and intend to have any further booster vaccinations that are made available.
Any weekdays, between 9.00am to 5.00pm

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
All new starters receive a comprehensive Induction, consisting of a minimum of 4 hours mandatory training in their first week, shadowing of experienced staff, and the assignment of a ’buddy’. The training is a blend of online learning and assessment, plus ‘on the job’ practical exercises.
The Abbeyfield Development Academy (ADA) is a comprehensive online catalogue of learning materials and courses. Some of these are required to be completed as part of their role. Whereas most of the content is discretionary, if employees wish to broaden their skills in due course, in subject areas immediately outside of their current role.
Whilst all Kickstart workers will be deployed in Care Homes and Sheltered Housing units across England, the scheme will be co-ordinated centrally by HR. We will use some of the materials used by our Outplacement Support Programme. These include guidance around how to apply for a job, CV writing, and interview skills.
We will also communicate with them as a Group, and encourage them to form a self-support Group on our Intranet.
